1.0 General
1.1 Scope
Specification for Ferritic-Austenitic (Duplex) Stainless Steel Fittings

1.2 Code
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME):
Section II Part A, Ferrous Material Specification, 2007 Edition, 2008 addenda.

1.3 Material Specification : SA 815 UNS S31803

1.4 End Use : Elbow, Reducer, Tee Etc…

2.0 Specification & Technical Delivery Condition

2.1 The material shall strictly conform to the requirements of SA 815 of


ASME Section II, Part A, 2007 Edition + 2008 Addenda.
2.2 The fitting shall be of seamless construction (Class WP-S) and shall meet
all the requirements of SAME B16.9, 2007 Edition
2.3 As final heat treatment, URNS S31803 shall be reheated to a temperature of 1870 to 2010ºF
[1020 to 1100ºC], with subsequent quenching in water or rapidly cooling by other means.
2.4 The chemical composition of each cart or heat shall be determined and shall conform to the
requirements of the chemical composition listed on Table 1 of Specification SA 815.
2.5 Fittings shall not exceed the maximum hardness shown in Table 3 of Specification SA 815.
2.6 The manufacturer shall provide a certificate of conformance to Specification SA 815
(including year date). In addition, the manufacturer shall provide the following where applicable:

2.6.3 Type of Heat treatment
2.6.4 Starting material
2.6.5 Seamless
2.6.6 Any supplemental testing required by purchase order

2.7 Product marking shall be as per Section 17 of Specification SA 815


2.8 Material Mill Certificates shall be in accordance with EN-10204 3.1B.
2.9 Additional requirements:
a. Chemical Composition In accordance with appropriate ASTM plus
22%Cr duplex PREN (%Cr +3.3% Mo +16%N) ≥ 34.0
b.Tensile Testing :
0.2% Proof Strength, Tensile Strength, Elongation and Reduction of Area
shall be tested as per appropriate ASTM.
c. Impact Testing:
Charpy V–notch testing according to ASTM A 370 at -46°C is required for
thickness ≥ 6mm. The minimum absorbed energy shall be 48J average and
36J single. Reduction factors for sub-size specimens shall be: 7.5mm - 5/6
and 5mm - 2/3.
d. Micrographic Examination
The micrographic examination shall cover the surfaces and mid-thickness
region of the plate or forging. The ferrite content shall be determined
according to ASTM E 562 or equivalent and shall be within 35-55% in the
solution annealed and water quenched condition. The microstructure as
examined at 500X magnification, over 30 fields and 16 points per field, on a
suitably etched specimen, shall be free from intermetallic phases and
precipitates.
e. All fittings shall be examined 100% by visual inspection.
f. Surface Finish:
Descaled, White Pickled, and Passivated Condition.
g. Weld repairs to plate or forging are not acceptable.
h. Corrosion Testing:
To ASTM G48 test method A. Test temperature shall be 50°C (25%Cr) for
24 hours. No pitting is acceptable at 20X magnification. Weight loss shall be
less then 4.0 g/m² and reported to the PURCHASER.
2.10 The size & quantity of pipe fitting shall be follow as per relevant PRS.
