Class Syllabus
Distance Learning
Course Description:
This course is designed for students who are interested in child growth and development. Topics will
include family interactions, pregnancy, infant, toddler, and preschool development. Students will develop
a deeper understanding for the ways young children behave and how to positively influence young
children's lives. This course focuses on the importance of developing a working knowledge of the
physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children from conception through age 18.
Optimum age and conditions for becoming a parent, as well as prenatal care, birth-defect prevention,
childbirth, health and safety, and the overall wellbeing of children are also emphasized. Students
interested in any occupations with children should begin with this class. Graduation elective credit;
UC/CSU "g" requirements, CTE Credit
Articulation:
Child Development is articulated with Child Growth and Development(CLDV-01)at Merced College.
Students can earn up to 3 transferable units. Articulation is free for high school students.
Student Leadership
FCCLA is the student organization(club) that supports the Child Development and Education Pathway.
Students that plan on completing the Education Pathway are strongly encouraged to join FCCLA. As a
club we will participate in campus activities, volunteer in the community, and encourage student
leadership.

Policies and Procedures
Late/Missing Work:
All Late or Missing Work must be emailed to Mrs. Button with the attached link.
Absent: Two days after the due date. Please indicate absence.
Missing/Late Work: One week after the due date for half credit.
After a Chapter: Once the Chapter test is complete, no missing/late assignments will be accepted.

100-90 A
89-80 B
79-70 C
69-60 D
59 and below F

Mrs. Button’s Individual Expectations:
This is new territory for all of us, so mistakes will happen. Please be patient and do your best!
1. Time Management: Try your best to log on to your chromebook and Zoom following the bell
schedule listed above. Refer to your Zoom Schedule posted on Google Classroom each Month.
Attendance must be taken daily so time management is extremely important
2. Staying in Tune: Check you Email and Google Classroom Everyday. Announcements will be
frequent.
3. Constant Communication: Email me or Contact me via Remind immediately if you have issues
or concerns.
4. Engagement: My hope is to make everyone feel included and involved in my class, even if it's
distant. Please contribute to discussion and give your opinion. I love hearing from you, that’s
what makes the classes so fun. This will be a learning process for us all but we can do it!
5. Comfort: This might be one of the most important expectations of all. We are living in
unpredictable times and I want school to be your happy place, even if you’re not here physically.
I can’t stress enough the importance of feeling comfortable in my classes, so please do not
hesitate to reach out to me.
