Reiki Level II

Starting Your Reiki Practice

You have learned the techniques needed to perform Reiki on others in person and from a
distance. It is up to you to decide if Reiki is something you would like to pursue as a more
formal practice with the public.

The benefits of being a Reiki Practitioner are that you can set your own hours. You may
want to pursue this in addition to your current profession. As your practice builds you
decide whether you would like to pursue Reiki full time. Another benefit is that you benefit
physically, mentally and emotionally from the sessions with clients. Imagine a job that
improved your well being. As a Reiki practitioner, you are your own boss. You can set your
session fees and choose the clients you wish to see. The drawbacks as with any business
are that in most cases you are also the receptionist who takes appointments, the
accountant who manages the finances and the marketing rep who promotes your business.
This profession can be an amazing way to make a living for the right person. Is that you?

Keep in mind that once you complete your Reiki Master Level, you have the ability to
certify other Reiki practitioners and teach Reiki. This can also add to your income as well
as add to your business as a practitioner.

We will get into detail regarding how to build a successful Reiki practice in the Reiki Master
course.

Frequently asked questions

“Can I start practicing Reiki right after I complete Levels 1

& 2?” Many Reiki students are licensed practitioners of
another health care modality (e.g., chiropractors,
physiotherapists, massage therapists, nurses, and so on).
They should be able to incorporate Reiki into their
sessions as soon as they are confident with the
techniques. It would be unfair to their clients to limit
these practitioners from using Reiki when it is such a
strong tool for healing.

Reiki students who come from non-health care

backgrounds should also start working on people right
away. Applying the newly learned material is the best way
to become proficient and gain confidence with the
techniques. These new Level 1 & 2 graduates may tell
clients (be they family members, friends or others) that
they have just learned a new modality and are working
towards their Master Level, a process which includes
gathering experience from conducting a minimum of 50
treatments.

As there is no risk of doing harm to the client with Reiki techniques, there is no reason to
wait for practicing on people who could benefit from the work. You can tell them that the
techniques you have learned are powerful, but make sure that they understand that you
are not yet a Reiki Master. In fact, knowing this, your clients may be even more impressed
with the positive results that they will realize from your sessions!

“Can I charge for Reiki sessions right away?” Right up front, we should say that the answer
to this question is not straightforward. Reiki students enter our courses with such diverse
experience, knowledge and backgrounds. Therefore, it would be unfair to implement a rigid
rule, with respect to charging, that applies to everyone during the period between
completing Levels 1&2 and certifying as a Reiki Master.

Health care practitioners who have learned Reiki and are incorporating it into their
treatment sessions have every right to continue charging for their treatments. In the
context of a professional treatment, including new techniques should not result in a loss of
income.
The standard for charging, in our opinion, should be that the student is confident in
following the standard techniques outlined. Some students reach this level by the end of
Reiki Level 2, but others need more practice to conduct professional sessions.

The concept of having an energy exchange between the therapist and client is important for
maximum results. For most new Level I and II graduates without another health care
certification, the first energy exchange for these “practice” Reiki sessions is your family
members and friends surrendering their time while you are navigating through the
techniques slowly. After a while, the energy exchange may become that the recipient who
has experienced positive benefits shares their enthusiasm to bring you clients. Eventually
donations will become appropriate, especially for those who have come on a referral. The
speed at which you proceed through these stages will depend on you.

In other words, if you are still fumbling with the tecniques, and your focus is not strong
then it is not appropriate to charge people money for sessions. For the first while, schedule
practice time with friends and family for free. Practice, practice, and practice! And as your
confidence and skills grow, quickly move to a suggested donation rate that is lower than a
professional treatment as a practical interim to charging the full fee.

If you have no prior health care background, having your Reiki Master Level before having
a set fee schedule is strongly recommended.

“Can I call myself a Certified Reiki

Practitioner?” It is accepted practice among
established health care professions that
people should not refer to themselves as
“Practitioners” unless certified according to
the standards of that health care
profession. Therefore, it is ethical to call
yourself a Reiki Practitioner once you have
completed Level II and been certified with
the Reiki practitioner designation.

A weekend workshop in any modality is just

that – a weekend workshop. No doubt much
can be learned during a weekend course,
but attendance alone does not qualify
participants to call themselves professionals
in that field – and we would consider doing
so deceitful.

It is important that we all uphold this

standard. We want the public to appreciate that there is more to becoming a Reiki
Practitioner than merely attending a couple of weekend workshops. People who
misrepresent themselves may deter others from seeking fully trained practitioners.

Conclusion
It’s been said that “perception is everything.” How new Reiki Level 1 & 2 graduates
represent themselves can have a tremendous impact on how Reiki is perceived by the
public and by other health care professionals.

Practicing right away is essential, and we hope that the above ideas facilitate your unique
path to Master certification in a professional manner. If you are excited by this work,
certification in a timely manner should be your goal. Getting certified is not difficult or
expensive, but it does represent a level of commitment to mastering the material and
joining the Reiki community at a professional level. Those who don’t value themselves and
what they do enough to commit time to study rarely get the kind of results seen on a
regular basis by those who do commit.

Practice
Reiki Spirit Energizer and Golden Egg Meditation

This is a modification of a Taoist breathing technique. It involves focusing

the Reiki energy, and then allowing it to form an "egg" around you for
protection and energizing of the spirit. This practice will leave you feeling
charged with energy, love and protection.

1. Sit in a comfortable chair with your back straight. Place the hands in
the prayer position.
2. Connect to the Reiki Energy. Do this by focusing on the energy, or
drawing the Dai Ko Mio Symbol into your energy field. You may want to
perform the Reiki Energy Field Cleansing above as well.
3. Begin by breathing in deep breaths through the nose and out through
the mouth. Visualize the Reiki Energy as a White Mist or White Light, and
breathe in pure energy and breathing out all the toxins and all things
negative. See the breath going out as slightly black and cloudy. (This
energy is transmuted in the Reiki light and is changed back to light.)
4. Let your awareness expand. First within you, then outside you and
then to the entire universe. Focus on the energy of the universe, the
stars, planets, and everything else. Now as you breathe in the Reiki
energy, focus on breathing in the energy of the universe, pulling it into
you, energizing you, filling you completely. Let yourself be filled with the
peaceful loving energy of the universe. (Take as much time as you need
here.)
5. As you breathe in the Reiki energy, slowly change the image to
breathing in peace. Think of the feeling of peace, and concentrate on
breathing in that peaceful feeling. Let this fill you completely. When you
breathe out send out the peaceful feeling to the universe.
6. Now see the color of the Reiki Energy turn Golden. See or visualize
breathing in this pure golden light. See it entering into your lungs, and
then spreading out throughout your whole body. Do this for 9 breaths.
7. Begin normally, in and out through the nose. Now, see this golden light
pool at the base of the spine and see a golden thread from the base of
your spine to the crown of your head. Breathe for 9 breaths. Mentally
begin to expand the thickness of the golden wire to about the thickness
of a pencil. Feel the golden light from the tip of the spine to the crown of
your head.
8. Now again expand the thickness of the golden light to the thickness of
a finger running from the crown of your head to the base of the spine.
9. Now, see the light expand to a column of light running from the base
of the spine to the top of the head.
10. Let the column of beautiful golden light slowly expand in size until it
completely surrounds you. Sit peacefully surrounded by the beautiful
golden light.
11. Slowly shape the golden light into an oval. Make it into a golden egg
that surrounds you completely. The golden egg surrounds you and
protects you, but it also strengthens you. The inside of the egg shimmers
with energy, and fills you, and strengthens your aura, energizing you.
12. Sit in the egg as long as you like, and when you are finished, begin
retracting the golden egg. First back into a golden column, and then
slowly shrink the column back to the base of the spine to the crown of
the head. Then make the column the thickness of a finger. And then
shrink it to the thickness of a pencil, and finally to the thickness of a
single strand of golden wire.
13. Now draw the energy of the golden strand of wire up the spine over
the crown of the head and focus it at a point where the third eye is
(between the eyebrows). Hold it there for 9 breaths and then draw the
golden dot through the head, into the mouth and down through the
stomach and into the lower abdomen, letting it slowly dissolve.
14. You can draw up the egg whenever you need it for energy or for
protection.

Exercise #1 - Making a Reiki Chi Ball

Hold the hands in front of the chest, palms facing each other and in front
of the chest. Focus or intend that you are connected to the Reiki. Your
hands will get warm. Think of the Reiki flowing into the hands, and then
continue to let them come farther apart until they are about a 12 inches
(26cm) apart. Hold this and let it fill with the Reiki energy. When done,
move the hands to the outside of the ball and pull it into yourself letting
it fill you with the energy.

Exercise #2 Using the Reiki Chi Ball to send distant healing

Perform the Reiki Chi Ball exercise above. When you are done, rather
than pull the ball into you, will and intend that it be sent to someone for
distant healing. Focus on the person, and let the energy beam out the
palms to them.

Exercise #3 - Connecting to the Reiki Energy Prior to a healing

Session
Many people use a ritual of drawing the symbols prior to doing healing on
others. Next time you are doing a healing, try the following: (this practice
is sometimes called the Reiki Shower).

Stand in a comfortable position. Close your eyes or keep them in the Zen
practice of being half-open. Breathe through the nose normally. Place the
hands in the gassho (prayer) position and breathe normally. Raise the
hands into the air, palms upward and visualize that the Reiki energy is
coming down over you and you are being bathed in a shower of Reiki
energy from the reiki source. Focus on the sensation. Move your raised
hands down over the front of the body from head to toe with palms
facing the body. Continue to focus in the Reiki energy flowing over you
as well as the Reiki pouring through your hands cleansing the energy
field around you, and let the excess energy run into the earth. Do this
three or more times. Finally, put your hands in the gassho position in
front of the heart and breathe for a few minutes. When you are finished
shake your hands nine times. Then proceed to do the healing.
