This book is passionately written by Benazir Bhutto in the account of her struggling life. It is
written melodramatically discussing the trials and political tribulations of her family. She
discussed execution of her father and her path covered with thorns which lead her to success.
This success came with the lives of her own family member and young part workers.
This is a great book to understand the complex situations in the country which was a
blend of autocracy, democracy and adverse effects of martial law in country. She gave her life
events of bravery and eloquent political career in fictional form. It’s her autobiography, that’s
why it’s not surprising to have exaggeration of things to create feeling of sympathy for her
among readers. Benazir mentioned in her book of tyranny of the government who assassinated
his father Mr. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. It was written that she and her mother were even deprived of
the basic necessities of life like good She picturized Bhutto family as the victim of cruelty and
injustice of the unwanted dictators. When she was jailed it was a great time of misery for her,
because she lead a life like princess in her young age. But it was not new at that time. It was
assumed to be customary for the military officials to overthrow democratic government after a
decade.
Benazir Bhutto’s book “Daughter of East” is regarded as a historical document of
courageous deeds of Bhutto family which was not only famous in Pakistan but also worldwide.
Bhutto family was a rich and well-known family. Benazir Bhutto’s education through Radcliffe
and Oxford gave her tremendous confidence and sense to hold the reins of a country. Being the
first women prime minister in Pakistan, the fame she got was incomparable.
Emphatically, she told about the memoir when she was inaugurated as a prime
minister on 2nd December, 1988. She wished for democracy, economic development of country,
strong ties with Muslim world and good terms with other countries of the world especially
neighboring countries. Benazir Bhutto always imagined about a love marriage as his father and
mother did. But on insistence of her family she decided to get marry Asif Ali Zardari.
Benazir Bhutto also discussed the death of his family rival Zia ul Haq. She had a view
that his sudden death in a plane crash is “ God’s wrath”. The incident after which Benazir family
again got hold on government. Zia’s death was a new phase for ppp to grow after many years
which proved as beneficial for the party. At the end of the book, Benazir Bhutto described
about the trust which people started doing in the new expected prime minister of Pakistan and
her hope to lead the country towards fair democratic state.
She was actually a woman of great intellect and bravery which is remarkable in the
history of Pakistan. And the comeback of Pakistan People’s Party after many years paved a new
way of success due to struggles of Benazir Bhutto.
