The passage provides background information on Sor's Mazurka from his Six petites pieces op. 32, including that it should have a dance-like rhythm and Sor taught many young ladies who would be interested in dancing.

This piece is intended for beginners on the guitar, as indicated by the title of the collection it is from.

Sor uses scordatura tuning where the 6th string is tuned to D, giving extra sonority with many bass notes on open strings.

TECLA EDITIONS
Mazurka, op. 32 no. 4
from Sor’s Six petites pièces op. 32
This mazurka should be played very much with the dance-floor in mind, with plenty
of rhythm. The mazurka was already popular in Paris ballrooms when Sor published
this example there in 1828, and he counted many young ladies among his pupils
who would certainly have been very interested in dancing.
Sor uses the scordatura of the sixth string to D which gives extra sonority and also
enables almost all the bass notes to be on open strings.
This is a piece for beginners on the guitar, as we can see from the title-page of the
collection from which it comes, Six petites pièces faciles et doigtées avec soin (Six
short and easy pieces, carefully fingered).
The mazurkas of Sor’s contemporary Chopin are of course famous, and Chopin
came to live in Paris in 1831, but this mazurka by Sor dates from 1828 before
Chopin arrived there. Also as is well known, Chopin’s mazurkas are compositions
at a high level and were not, I think, intended to be danced to.
