Gary Gygax Q&A Part XV
They ended up in the Demonworld adv I'd been workin' on remember? Such things drove
Ernie to
evil acts and Ratner to lower his head and look at us over his glasses' rims. Heh! Good times
by all! [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2142/t/The-quot-Nine-quot-
Revisited.html?page=2
EGG noted that they were sent to the Abyss, but we actually sent them to Demonworld, a
place I constructed off of the Abyss and which was used as a marshalling area for demonic
invasions of the PMP. It was not a pretty return trip... [RJK]

[What other topics have you and Gary tossed around as possible article ideas Rob?]
EGG's "Golden Horde" excursions; Gronan in Greyhawk (the flustered and serious gamer
then, that he was); more on the Monk (vampire escapades), Robilar and the Wizard (ring of
spell turning/selling white dragon debacle), and others. If DRAGON likes the initial essay,
then we'll proceed, I guess. [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2146
Well, the Monk and the Vampire tale starts with the PCs entering that wizard's tower
(although it is in wracked form); and The White Dragon Selling tale with Robilar takes place
outside it. [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2146
The wizard [the Striped Wizard of Greyhawk] and his intrigues and tower were detailed for a
LGJ article I did nearly 2.5 years ago which was never published, although I was paid for it.
As I said, Terry's PC (the Monk) enters the tower during one of his adventures (with a vampire
close on his heels). [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2146/t/Guest-

As noted in the ODnD books, we originally used the Avalon Hill board game map from
Outdoor Survival to run outdoor adventures. Ponds were castles, towns were towns, other
terrain remained unchanged. We kept track of how many boards were being traveled from the
starting one. One north of base, two north of base, 1 north/2 west, etc. and merely placed the
marker representing the party on the edges of the map as they traversed to a new one (moving
off the north edge of the base map would place the marker on the south edge of map 1+North
of base, etc.).
The motivation was finding outdoor encounters and such, collecting money and magic, just
the base stuff then. As everything was new then, and the enchantment hadn't dies with the
publication and codification of the parts as yet, this motivation was of course satisfactory
enough to keep interest levels high. Today such stuff would be considered pass and boring.
Outdoor adventures were more popular with the PCs as they began sculpting their
strongholds. [RJK] http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/2147
