Impact Of Air Pollution On Human Health: Its aftermath and solutions

The health effects of air pollution imperil human lives. This fact is well-
documented (Eddie Bernice Johnson). Pollution is a much broader term
than we can think of. It is not just the heavy smog drifting over cities and
industrial plants nor the result of the increasing number of vehicles or
factories. It may actually even vary from small units of cigarettes to natural
sources such as volcanic activities. In addition, nine out of ten people
worldwide live in places where air contamination surpasses safe limits. The
majority of the population does not realize the threat it poses to human
health which is more than just mere allergies, diseases, damages to other
living creatures or crops. Therefore, I believe that though there are
numerous ways we can reduce air pollution, the first one should be raising
awareness using campaigns or by simply letting communities know about
this issue, its danger and how it can be prevented and reduced.

Being one of the fourth largest threats to human health worldwide,

air pollution creates an imbalance in the natural gases that make up our
Earth’s atmosphere, therefore slowly boosting in the reduction of the
Ozone layer and increasing the rate of global warming. Furthermore,
secondary air pollutants such as, nitrogen oxides that react under
conditions of high temperatures, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and all
other poisonous gases, be them odorless or not, colorless or not, when
combined with one another in the presence of sunlight or water, forms
poisonous gases or acid rain. These are not less dangerous than the
primary air pollutants as either of them can generate fatigue, headaches,
drowsiness and in extreme cases, death.
