COURSE DESCRIPTION :
This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, desirable attitudes and skills of
mason in accordance with industry standards. It covers specialized competencies such as;
Lay concrete hollow block for structure and plaster wall surface. It also includes
competencies in workplace communication, work in a team, safety, use of hand tools, and
housekeeping.

LO2 PERFORM LAYING OF CONCRETE HOLLOW BLOCK
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
1. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in accordance with Rule 1080 of
Occupational Safety and Health Standards
2. Reinforcing bar / dowel is installed according to required job specifications
3. Mortars are spread on the base /edge of hollow block according to job
specifications
4. Hollow block is laid on the line according to job specifications
5. Constant checking of plumbness and alignment is done during hollow block
laying
6. Excess mortar on joints are scraped
7. Work area is cleaned according to safety and environmental regulations (e.g. PD
