Enumerate and explain the five fundamental key abilities that a researcher should possess in
making research.
There are five fundamental key abilities that a researcher should possess these are:
a. The Ability to create ideas; this is the ability of a researcher to think outside the box of
common sense and make innovative ideas that are supported with facts. In a way
researchers must be a source of new ideas that will be beneficial for the body of
knowledge.
b. The ability to classify, source and use appropriate related literature; is the ability of a
researcher to know immediately the resources needed to develop his/her research.
There are a lot of literatures that is related to your study but only a few of them will
surely be significant in reinforcing your idea. Knowing your research by heart or in other
words knowing the objective of your research will give you the exact literature that
he/she needs to support his/her idea and will help him in developing the output the
he/she wants.
c. The ability to develop and improve research projects with a good fit in which all
researcher phases fit together; is the ability of the researcher to be well organized with
his research from start to finish. The knowledge of the research framework is the key in
making a well-organized research.
d. The Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data; is the ability to understand the
methodology of the research. The researcher must first spend time reading books and
other literatures to achieve his goal because analyzing and interpreting also means to
study and review. The researcher must be knowledgeable first on the methods of
collecting data that will fit with his/her research after that is the analysis and making a
final conclusion.
e. The ability to clearly write well; at the end every researcher must know how to publish
his/her research to be able to contribute to the body of knowledge. A research cannot
be accepted if it did not have any significant contribution the improvement of human
life. A research is not called a research study if it is hidden, it must be published and
known to others to have any significance to the human race.
In making a research, you should consider the researchability of your target study. How can
you find your research as a viable one?
A viable research or its researchability means a study has the enough resources to be
researched. This resource can be time, money and accessibility. Time is an important
element for a viable research, some researcher’s needs a lot of time to gather data, for
example is earthquake analysis that needs years to gather data. Money or the financial
capability of the researcher must also be considered when doing a research. The
research methodology maybe to complex or needs expensive test equipment and life
size models to generate data, this will affect the researcher’s study to gain an accurate
data. The researcher needs to use methodologies that are within the budget of his/her
study. Last is the accessibility of the researcher to different resources and tools. The
research may have never been studied yet and has no related literature or the
researcher may have no accessibility to related articles of his/her study because it is a
paid article. It may also be because of the country you live in where the equipment you
need to test your hypothesis is not available in your country. A researcher must identify
this constraints first and develop a research topic that can be achievable with the
resources available.
A research statement is basically the problem that the researcher needs to find a
solution this will be the heart of a research and will consist of a single question or
statement that will contain the outline of the study. It shall be simple and concise
and will identify the conceptual framework of the study and will be the guide for
the other three research frameworks.
Explain the differences between research aims and research objectives and how it will help
you in the process of a research study?
Knowing your research statement you can now begin with your research aims and
objectives. Research aims is your target or your goal in the research this will determine
what outcome you want to achieve this is derived from the research statement while
the research objective is the method of how you’re going to achieve your goal. An aim
of the research is preferably only one but can also be two or more it should expand only
the general idea of the research statement so that the research will not be too complex,
the research objective is then defined for each aim of the research, a rule of thumb in
making the research objectives is that it should be not more than six to not complicate
the methodology that will be developed and should also contain a verb in each phrase,
in the objective you can then derive the methodology that will be used for the study.
The literature will help the research refine the research statement and provide a clearer view of
the study. It will be the foundation of the research which will help it in proving facts and
solidifying the idea closing all doubts and questions that could arise while making the research.
Choosing the right literature will align your ideas to the right path or the output that you want
to achieve. Literature can also give way in realizing a better idea from the previous one this will
help in developing new and innovative thinking.
What are the aspects that research should take into consideration in searching related
literature to their study?
In searching related literatures for your study a number of aspects must be taken to
consideration, first is its publication date or if it is an up-to-date publication remember that
research develops thru time which makes old publications lose its value because of new
publications that collects data with more advance methodologies that were not used before, old
publication can still be a reference to your research but is not that valuable to the study. Second
is the credentials of the author, having knowledge of the author’s profession and achievements
will give the researcher a bit more confidence in citing his/her research . Third is checking the
place where the work was published, the location is an important aspect of choosing a related
literature, because sometimes the methodologies or standards used in other countries is
different in your country. Last is being critical in the literature, choose wisely which literature to
be used, there are a lot of topics related to your research but only a number of it will be
relevant.
Knowing the Conceptual and Theoretical Frameworks the researcher can develop a
Methodological Framework. The methodology depends on the research approach you are going
to choose. It should be suitable with the output you are aiming for and will help in answering
the statement of the problem. It should also be in line with the research objectives that you
have developed in the conceptual framework.
What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism is the act of using other peoples research and ideas without citing it in the research
paper this also means stealing others idea for the benefit of the other. This is in many ways
unethical and is a disgrace to researchers who give their all in coming up with innovative ideas
and doing the effort in researching related literature and citing them in their research. A hint of
plagiarism can diminish the integrity of the study and destroy the reputation of the researcher.
A bibliography is a list of articles, sources and literatures that are compiled at the end of the
paper. This shows the name of the literature, the author, date publish and a number that will be
inserted in sentences which will help in citing the literature used. This is important because it
helps avoid plagiarism and cites the works of the authors. This is summarized at the end so that
the readers will know and give credit to the research work of other people, like the ending
credits in a movie where they flash all the people that helped in making the film possible. Giving
credit to other peoples work adds credibility and value to their work and it also gives quality to
your work.
Appendices are extra information shown in an orderly manner. The research paper doesn’t
depend or can stand alone without appendices but is valuable information for future
researchers who wants to understand more about the research study. This can be tables, letters,
graphs, data, statistics, simulations, interviews, bar charts or any kind of document that shows
data. This can be used as reference for other researchers in developing new ideas.
