Heath is in his fourth year at USF and saw his squad picked 13th in the BIG EAST Preseason poll, just ahead of the Friars.
Friars vs. USF, The Series: Providence and South Florida have met eight times, with the Friars holding a 5-3 advantage in the series.
The teams met twice before USF became a member of the BIG EAST Conference, splitting a home-and-home series with the Bulls
winning, 68-64, in Tampa, Fla., on November 26, 2002, and the Friars taking an 84-60 win at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on December
2, 2003. The first meeting as BIG EAST Conference foes came in Providence on February 21, 2006, with PC winning the game, 77-56.
Providence won five of the first six meetings in the series, however, USF won the last two meetings, both last season. On January 23,
2010, the Bulls took a 109-105 overtime victory at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, then captured the rematch in Tampa, Fla., 99-93. The
last Friar win was February 10, 2009, a 77-62 win at the Sun Dome.
Last Time Out: The Providence College men's basketball team dropped a road contest at BIG EAST foe Rutgers, falling 85-72, on
Saturday, January 8. The Friars were led by senior guard Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.), who recorded 29 points. It marked
the 11th-consecutive game that Brooks scored at least 20 points, and the 13th time on the season. Sophomore guard Vincent Council
(Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 14 points and five assists. Sophomore guard Duke Mondy (Grand Rapids, Mich.) led PC with eight rebounds. The
Scarlet Knights were led by a double-double from senior forward Jonathan Mitchell, who posted 21 points and 10 rebounds. Senior
guard Mike Coburn dished out seven assists for Rutgers. It marked the first time this season the Friars were defeated after leading at
halftime. Other than Brooks and Council, the offense just could not get in sync. As a team, the Friars shot only 30.8% from the field,
including 6-22 from beyond the three-point arc. The Scarlet Knights countered with a 54.4 field goal percentage.

Council Adds 10 Assists Versus Pittsburgh: Sophomore guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn,
N.Y.) added 10 assists in the Friars loss to No. 5 Pittsburgh on January 4. For Council it marked
the fourth time this season he has recorded 10 or more assists in a game. He is averaging 6.8 assists per contest to lead the BIG EAST.
For the season, he has registered 115 assists. He currently is on pace to finish with 211 assists this season, which would rank seventh
all-time at Providence College.
History-Making Pace For Brooks: Senior guard Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) has scored 20 or more points in 13 of the
Friars' 17 games this season. He also has scored 20 or more points in 11 consecutive games and is currently averaging 23.8 points per
game. The Friars have a minimum of 15 games remaining this season (14 regular season games, with at least one post-season game).
If he continues to score at this pace, he will finish with 738 points for the season. This scoring total would be the fourth highest in a
single season for a Friar. Jimmy Walker scored 851 points (30.4 ppg) in 1966-67, Eric Murdock scored 818 (25.6 ppg) in 1990-91 while
Ernie DiGregorio scored 761 (24.6 ppg) in 1972-73.
Brooks Leads Squad In Scoring: Senior guard Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) is leading the team in scoring through 17 games,
averaging 23.8 points. Brooks also is one of the team's leading rebounders, averaging 8.0 rebounds per game. That is a significant
increase over the 3.2 boards per game he averaged over his first three seasons at Providence. He has twice scored a career-high 33
points this season, first against Brown (December 6), then against Alabama (December 11).
Brooks Records Another Double-Double: Senior Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) entered the season having played 81 games
during his first three seasons at Providence. During that time he did not register a double-double. However, Brooks has picked up
his play this season registering a double-double six times, including 25 points and 12 rebounds in the Friars’ win over Sacred Heart
on December 21. He also has scored in double figures in scoring in all 17 of the Friars’ games this season. Brooks has scored 20 or
more points in 14 of the last 15 games.
Coleman Tabbed Rookie Of The Week: Freshman guard Gerard Coleman (Boston,
Mass.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday, November 29. Coleman
earned the honor after averaging 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists as the Total Double-Doubles (13)

four rebounds in the Friars' 84-73 loss to La Salle on November 23. On November 24,
he registered 15 points and four rebounds in an 84-77 win over Wyoming. Coleman,
who attended the Tilton School last year, ranks third on the team in scoring at 10.6 Friars In The BIG EAST Rankings

A Big Night From The Line: Sophomore guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had an impressive night from the free-throw line in
the Friars' win over Wyoming on November 24. The Friars' point guard made all 16 of his attempts and finished with 29 points. The
16 made free throws is tied for fifth best all-time in a single game by a Friar. His perfect 16-16 performance is tied for second all-
time behind only former Friar Eric Murdock's 17-17 performance versus Seton Hall on January 2, 1991 (Murdock also posted a 16-16
performance). Council is shooting 75.0 percent (78-104) from the free-throw line this season. He had made 22-straight free throws
before he missed his first attempt against Northeastern on December 1.
Council Named To All-Tournament Team: Sophomore Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.) helped the Friars post a 3-1 mark in the
Cancun Challenge after averaging 18.3 points in the four games. For his efforts, Council was named to the Cancun Challenge All-
Tournament Team.
Council Triples Up On Double-Doubles: Sophomore guard Vincent Council (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who earned BIG EAST All-Rookie Team
honors last season, registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 assists in the Friars' win over Prairie View A&M
on November 20. He then picked up his second-career double-double in the win over rival Rhode Island on Saturday, December 4.
Council finished that game with 17 points and 10 assists, while adding seven rebounds to flirt with a triple-double. His third came
on a night he tied the PC record for assists in one game, with 16, while adding 19 points against Brown.
Dixon On The Boards: Sophomore forward Bilal Dixon (Jersey City, N.J.) leads the Friars in rebounding, averaging 8.3 rebounds in
17 games. He has grabbed 11 or more rebounds in seven of the 16 games this season. Dixon registered 11 boards in the Friars’ sea-
son opening win over Dartmouth. He recorded a game-high 14 rebounds in a win over Yale, before grabbing 12 rebounds against
Morgan State. He grabbed 12 rebounds in three-consecutive games against Northeastern, Rhode Island and Brown, giving him at
least 10 rebounds in 12 career games.
Turning Them Back: Sophomore forward Bilal Dixon (Jersey City, N.J.) leads the Friars in blocks on the season, with 39 in 17 games.
The average of 2.3 per game is good for third in the BIG EAST. As a team, the Friars have registered 95 blocks on the season (5.6 per
game), which is fifth in the BIG EAST. The total also ranked the Friars 23rd in the nation in blocks per game at the release of the most
recent NCAA rankings (January 9).
Starting From The Start: When freshman guard Gerard Coleman started in the season-opener against Dartmouth, he became the
16th true freshman to start in their first career game. Coleman's 17 points against the Big Green is the most by a freshman in a season-
opening game. The last time it occurred was 2005-06, when Geoff McDermott started in the opener against Vermont. McDermott
scored 13 points, while adding nine rebounds and three assists in the 87-77 Friar victory. Council joins McDermott as one of only six
Friar true freshmen to start in the season's first game and score in double-figures.
The Name Game: This season, the Friars feature one of the more unusual name combinations in the country, as they have student-
athletes with the first name Brice and Bryce on the roster. Freshmen Brice Kofane (Yaounde, Cameroon) and Bryce Cotton (Tucson, Ariz.)
form the unique combination. The odds of a team (NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA Divisions I and II) featuring such a combination
are 1-in-1,277 (1,277 represents the number of teams across the NCAA and NAIA divisions). Amazingly, another team featured the
combination last season, as Dakota State, an NAIA institution in Madison, S.D., had Brice Chris-
tensen and Bryce Snyder on its roster. The odds are overwhelmingly against two teams having 2010-11 BIG EAST
such a combination in the same season, with that number coming in at 1-in-1,629,452. Preseason Poll

Bringing Friartown To Every Town: The 2010-11 Providence College men's basketball team has continued the tradition of com-
munity service and involvement. Already this fall, team members have been active in communities throughout Rhode Island. On
Tuesday, November 9, Marshon Brooks and Mike Murray visited St. Joseph's School in West Warwick, R.I., as a part of the Providence
College All-Stars School Rewards program. The program is geared toward rewarding academic achievement with tickets to Friar
men's basketball games. On Thursday, October 28, Dre Evans and Kadeem Batts visited St. Kevin's School in Warwick, R.I. to talk with
fifth through eighth grade students. On Thursday, October 7, Ray Hall, Bilal Dixon, Gerard Coleman, Bryce Cotton and Brice Kofane
visited Kent Hospital in Warwick, R.I. The student-athletes shadowed doctors and nurses to learn about various aspects of the health
care field, while also having the opportunity to meet with patients. On Thursday, September 30, Kofane visited Ashaway Elementary
School in Chariho, R.I., to talk with third and fourth graders.
