    WYG2GMA Converter - QuickStart Guide

    1. Export CSV from WYSIWYG


    A. Open your WYSIWYG file
    B. Open the Data-View > Spreadsheet > „All data (sortable)“
    C. Show ALL columns in view (Right click > View options… > Data View Options)
    D. File > Export > Save as CSV

    • Only fixtures with a valid/unique „Spot“ or „Channel“ number will be processed


    • Exported coordinates need to be metric (Options > User Options > Draw Defaults > Units)

    2. Import CSV into WYG2GMA


    A. Open WYG2GMA Converter software
    B. Click the „Import CSV“ button and select your exported WYSIWYG file

    3. Make your adjustments


    „Import“ - Generates layers for this fixtures
    „Patch“ - Includes this Fixtures in Patch-Macro
    „Move“ - Includes this Fixtures in Move-Macro
    „Groups“ - Includes this Fixtures in Groups-Macro
    „Fixture Type“ - Your grandMA2 Fixture Type for this layer (needs to be imported already)
    „Ignore patch collisions“ - Patch fixtures without asking in case of patch collisions
    „Prefix fixture name with position“ - Add „position“ to fixture name
    „Create groups from …“ - Create groups from selection

    • It is highly recommended to use FixtureType „Dimmer“ for import (see FAQ)

    4a. Export setup to grandMA2 (USB or folder)


    A. Click the „Export Setup“ button
    B. Select target folder/drive

    Export to folder: Select a folder (for example: „Desktop“)

    Export to USB storage: Select your USB device (for example: „D:\“)

    (the export creates the „gma2“ folder structure automatically, if it’s not already existing)
    C. Open your (new) grandMA2 show file on your console (or MA onPC)
    D. Setup > Import Export > Import > Macros
    E. Select your USB device
    F. Import all macros from „WYG2GMA.xml“ file

    • Make sure that every „Fixture Type“ used in settings table exist in grandMA2 BEFORE importing
    4b. Export setup to grandMA2 console (Network)
    A. Make sure your PC has a working network connection to your grandMA2 console (not OnPC!)
    B. Open your (new) grandMA2 show file on your console
    C. Setup > Console > Activate “Telnet Login”
    D. Click the „To Console“ button
    E. Enter the IP address of your console
    F. Enter the start ID of the first imported macro (4 will be imported)

    • Make sure that every „Fixture Type“ used in settings table exist in grandMA2 BEFORE importing
    • Sending directly to OnPC is not supported
    • Sending to grandMA3 Mode2 is only supported in version 3.7.0.1 and never

    5. Import layers and fixtures


    A. Start macro „WYG2GMA import layers“
    B. Select the drive where the exported setup was saved

    (should be 4 in most cases if it’s on your USB storage)
    C. When import is finished, you see the „Patch & Fixture Schedule“ window.

    Import your chosen FixtureTypes and assign them to the fixtures.

    All layers were named to match the containing FixtureTypes.
    D. Close this window

    Step 3 needs to be done because fixtures were imported as „Dimmer“ by default (unless set otherwise).
    This helps to ensure MultiPart-Fixtures were handled correctly by grandMA2 software.

    6. Patch the fixtures, create groups & move fixtures


    A. Start macro „WYG2GMA patch fixtures“

    To patch all Fixtures. Make sure correct FixtureTypes were assigned.
    B. Start macro „WYG2GMA create groups“

    Generate groups based on your selection. Existing groups were merged.
    C. Start macro „WYG2GMA move fixtures“

    Only if you want 3D positions to be updated without re-importing the fixtures.

    Known limitations
    - WYSIWYG CSV position data has to be metric
    - It is highly recommended to use FixtureType „Dimmer“ for import
    - Rotation parameters are supported in WYSIWYG R36 and newer
    - Import of Multi-Patch and Fixture-Accessories (Scroller, 4/8-lites with 2+ channels, …) does not work
    - Sending directly to OnPC is not supported

    Supported versions
    WYSIWYG R34 (and newer, R36+ for rotation import)
    grandMA2 v3.0 (and newer)

    For grandMA2 below v3.1 make sure to set the default FixtureType to „1“ in WYG2GMA settings.
    Maybe older versions will work too, but i did not test it …
    FAQ
    Q: WHY ARE FIXTURES AT POSITION 0/0/0?
    A: FixtureType did not exist in grandMA2 during import. Make sure every FixtureType (ID number) exists
    before importing. If you’r using grandMA2 v3.0 or lower please use the option „FixtureType 1“ in „Settings“
    window.

    Q: IMPORT OF WYSIWYG DATA FAILED WITH „MISSING CSV FILED: …“?


    A: The exported CSV file does not contain a necessary field. Please make sure you exported ALL columns
    (including X, Y, Z, …). Find this settings under:
    Data-View > Spreadsheet > „All data (sortable)“ > Right click > View options… > Data View Options

    Q: IMPORT OF WYSIWYG DATA FAILED WITH „INPUT DATA CONTAINS INVALID PATCH DATA: …“?
    A: Make sure your DMX universes were numbered like 1, 2, 3, … grandMA2 can’t handle non-numeric DMX
    universes. One exception: A, B, C, … were automatically converted to 1, 2, 3, … by this tool.

    Q: IMPORT OF WYSIWYG DATA FAILED WITH „INPUT DATA CONTAINS NON-METRIC POSITION DATA: …“?
    A: The exported CSV file does not contain metric position data. Please make sure your exported CSV contains
    only metric position data. Find this settings under:
    Options > User Options > Draw Defaults > Units

    Q: WHAT ABOUT PATCH UNIVERSES IN DETAIL? NUMBERS OR LETTERS?


    A: You can choose two options: Have your patch universe numeric (0 to 999) or as letters (A to ZZ). A=1, B=2,
    Z=26, AA=27, AB=28, ZZ=702. Keep this in mind if you try mixing like 1, 2, A, B, C (this would overwrite
    universe 1 with A=1 and so on).

    Q: I WANT TO UPDATE CHANGED FIXTURE POSITIONS/PATCH WITHOUT RE-IMPORTING ALL LAYERS?


    A: The macros „WYG2GMA move fixtures“ and „WYG2GMA patch fixtures“ are just updating existing fixtures.
    You can start these macros after re-importing them if you changed the data in WYSIWYG.

    Q: WHY IS THE PATCH DONE BY A MACRO INSTEAD OF IMPORTING IT WITHIN THE LAYERS?
    A: (1) You would loose the patch after changing the fixture type.
    (2) You can use the patch macro again after changing the patch in WYSIWYG without re-importing all the layer
    and fixture stuff.

    Q: WHY ARE FIXTURES NOT ROTATED CORRECTLY (AS SHOWN IN WYSIWYG PLOT)?
    A: Rotation export is supported in WYSIWYG R36 and newer.

    Q: I WANT TO MOVE/ROTATE FIXTURES RELATIVE TO INSERTION POINT AFTER IMPORT?


    A: Check out MA command „Move3D /relative“ and „Rotate3D /relative“.

    Q: WHY SHOULD FIXTURETYPE „DIMMER“ SHOULD BE USED FOR IMPORT?


    A: grandMA2 is currently not able to import Multipart-Fixtures in a simple way. CSV export of WYSIWYG
    provides too less data to do this correctly. So the best way is to import every fixture as „Dimmer“-placeholder
    and then assign the correct types in the grandMA2 software.
    It also ensures a straight workflow: WYSIWYG > CONVERTER > GRANDMA (without the need to import all
    types before using the converter).

    Q: WHICH DATA FIELDS WERE PROCESSED?


    A: Spot = Fixture ID, Channel = Channel ID, Patch = Patch, Type = Layer, X = Pos X, Y = Pos Y, Z = Pos Z,
    RotX = Rotation X, RotY = Rotation Y, RotZ = Rotation Z.
    Type/Position/Layer/Purpose/Focus/Color/Gobo = Used for group creation (if not empty)

    Q: HOW CAN I SORT THE CREATED FIXTURES? MY FIXTURES APPEAR IN RANDOM ORDER AFTER IMPORT.
    A: This tool automatically sorts incoming data based on the sort options („Settings“ window).
    For manual sorting open „Settings“ window and chose „None“ as sort option. Then sorting has to be done
    before WYSIWYG export. The „Data View Options“ provide settings for sorting the Fixtures. The converter
    processes the CSV from top to down without any sorting.
    Q: I WANT TO CHANGE FIXTUREID OR CHANNELID COLUMN?
    A: Open „Settings“ window and choose your columns. I do not recommend using the same column for both
    IDs.

    Q: SOME FIXTURES WERE NOT MERGED INTO ONE SINGLE CHANNEL-LAYER?


    A: Only layers where all fixtures have set a ChannelID but no FixtureID will be merged into one single channel
    layer.

    Q: MY WYSIWYG DOES NOT SUPPORT CSV EXPORT. WHAT CAN I DO?


    A: Upgrade :-) But: If you are experienced with Excel, you can TRY (without support) exporting your data to
    Excel. Open it in Excel and save as CSV. Make sure the file is comma-separated (,) and has no quotes (").
    The first line should look like: Channel,Patch,Dimmer,Spot,…
