HCM and NYC
Best wishes,
Phong
There are similarities in the history of the two cities. Both NY and HCM were founded
in 1698. In addition, neither NYC nor HCMC is the original name of each city. NY
was formerly known as New Amsterdam and HCM was once called Saigon.
The physical features of these two cities are completely different. NY is smaller
than HCM. In fact, NY covers an area of 956sq km whereas HCM has an area of
2,094sq km. Moreover, NY is located on the Northeast Coast of the USA, on the
Atlantic Ocean while HCM lies on the banks of the Saigon River in the south of
Vietnam. Additionally/ In addition,NY's climate is temperate with cold winters and hot,
humid summers. Unlike NY, HCM has a tropical climate with dry seasons and rainy
seasons.
The populations of the two cities are quite different. Firstly, NYC has a larger
population than HCMC. NY has 8 million people whereas HCM has 6 million people.
In addition, there is an important difference in their composition. NY is a multicultural
city with an ethnically diverse population including the Chinese, African American,
Italian and German. In contrast, the ethnic composition of HCM is homogeneous.
People of Vietnamese descent make up the vast majority ofHCMC's population
and there are some Chinese people.
