CHCGRP002 – Plan and conduct group activities

To survive and grow appropriately in congregations or groups with diverse

personalities activities are required. The need for planning and having good group activities

do not just happen, it requires skills in significant events taking the issues below into account

in your planning. This unit, CHCGRP002 – Plan and conduct group activities describes skills

and knowledge that are required to establish, lead and participate in groups using a

collaborative, strengths-based approach[ CITATION Sma15 \l 2057 ]. CHCGRP002 – Plan and

conduct activities apply to any individual either formal or informal involved in leading and

planning group activities.

Having a diverse group that consists of five participants, first participant has mild

intellectual disability, and the second has hearing impairment in both ears and feels socially

isolated, third participant has early onset dementia and enjoys quizzes, fourth participant has

a diversity down syndrome and enjoys boards games, and the fifth participant having bipolar

and would like to attend a therapeutic activity

To develop different group activities sessions for the five participants, I need to

consider

i. Reviewing the available information and identify the needs of the group

ii. Generate ideas for activities that respond to identified needs

iii. Identify, calculate and document the resource required for group activities

iv. Identify and follow up on the needs to make submissions for potential sources of

assistance and resources within scope of role.

In the case of the five participants, they would be motivated if I involved them in designing

and deciding the activities that would best gear towards developing their own potentials,

through asking them. I would incorporate group planning through:

i. Seeking opportunity actively for collaborative planning share the duties with the

clients

ii. Solicit, analyse and prioritise information concerning the group needs and what they

expect.

iii. Negotiate the main purpose of the group activities with the group allowing each

participant time and opportunity to articulate their ideas and wishes.

iv. Try and design group strategies that promote effective group operation and take into

account specific characteristics of participating client.

v. Evaluate and analyse the purpose of the group activity proposed and document the

aims and objectives on inputs.

I would develop and deploy team building games, group exercises and events, and corporate

events and social responsibility. When the three sessions are applied, they would develop the

participants’ motivation, improve communication and involve a lot of fun among them.

One of team building games for activity that would take 5-10 minutes would be an

activity called changes, where by its main purpose is to diffuse negativity within a group

when faced with challenging changes. So that I can collaboratively involve the participants in

the aims and objectives of the activity, I would clearly outline the activity proceedings and

how one participates. In the activity the resources required in the game are slight mind

evaluation, paying attention and participation in the group, flip chart, and proposed changes

by the participants. The instructions for the activity are; using a flip chart, list the changes

that the group is going through. Facilitate a discussion on:

 How these changes are altering us as a group and as individuals?

 What must we do to face the challenges?

 What symbol or object could we use to represent the change we are going through and

the commitments we strive for in this session?

Then break the participants into pairs and ask them to select a symbol. After their

discussions, reassemble them into one group and have them select a symbol. You can repeat

this as needed throughout the training event. After the training and carrying the test, I would

use my interpersonal skills by the need to paraphrase the activity for the participants to

understand and also by asking question at the very end of the training what the participant has

learnt in the activity. To achieve more on the activity, I would manage group processes and

individual conflict that would be reached by:

i. Promoting opportunities for open dialogue, asking questions and active listening

between paired groups

ii. Encouraging and modelling the sensitivity to diverse participants

iii. Identifying and reinforcing the outcomes of positive conflict.

iv. Offer opportunity to all participants for support, debriefing, mediation, consultation

and facilitation.

v. Encouraging acknowledgement of rights and responsibilities and perceptions of all

participants in the conflict situation

vi. Using strategies to prevent conflict within own role, power and capacity

The final stage that would ensure competency in activity involving the five

participants would be achieved by:

i. Seeking feedback from group participants on achievement of the objectives, group

process, areas for development and other achievements

ii. Ensuring that the aims and objectives of the group activity provide the basis for

evaluation and feedback

iii. Evaluation of documents information according to organization procedures and

distributes to the relevant participants
