Call of Duty Mobile: A Revolution in Your Pockets: October 2019 First Weeks of Release
So just recently, I downloaded Call of Duty Mobile on my phone after the corona virus lockdown
hit as a means to pass my time. To my surprise the game’s vibrant graphics and intense
gameplay got me hooked on for hours just after playing my first game ever of the COD
franchise!
With its roots coming from the same ideology of COD on PC and gaming consoles, this is
derived from its classic successful predecessors, ModernWarfare and Black Ops. That being
the least of it, COD mobile was developed by the gaming giants TiMi Studios and published by
Activision in October 2019. Matter of fact, on its first week of launch, the game crossed a record
breaking 100 million downloads crushing the likes of PUBG and Fortnite which had 28 million
and 22.5 million downloads respectively in their first weeks of release. The astonishing part is
that this game CODM, hasn't yet been launched in China which constitutes 25% of the whole
gaming market of the world! Yet how has it been so successful in attaining such a large gaming
audience?
Let's talk about their outreach and main gripping factors which made them the best in no time
and still continue to lead the gaming industry. First and foremost is the background of the game
from where it comes. The popularity of COD on consoles and PC was already tremendous and
due its extravagant graphics and adventurous story mode that the action based game provided
its users, along with the multiplayer feature that allowed players to compete against each other
in various game modes and attractive maps. When these ideas and features were packed and
incorporated in an action packed first person shootout game on android and ios, it made their
fan base go crazy! Secondly, the time frame in which the game was released is very important
because that period was when FPS multiplayer games like PUBG and Fortnite had established
their popularity quite well. Though their graphics and storylining features were never a match to
that of COD, PUBG especially had made an unbelievable impact and changed the mobile
gaming industry quite uniquely with the concept of “last man/team standing” battle royale in
2017. With the ground being set, 2 years later COD makes a glamorous entry with a release of
its mobile product. Not just any FPS multiplayer game, but this where they played it really smart.
Their main highlight was also the Battle Royale mode, along with their usual well known
multiplayer and zombie modes.
Another, awe-striking feature of CODM that keeps its users addicted is its diverse customization
feature with different weapons, characters, perks, assistive add ons and so much more. Truly,
the game has revolutionized the concept of multiplayer action genre of the mobile gaming
market. Where one had to access a PC, Playstation or Xbox consoles to enjoy this mesmerizing
and captivating game, now can simply be enjoyed from our pockets.
