    According to the 2011 census: - India's population increased to 1.21 billion with a 17.7% decadal growth rate and annual growth rate of 1.67%. - Uttar Pradesh had a population density of 828 with the highest densities in Ghaziabad, Varanasi, and Lucknow and the lowest in Lalitpur, Sonbhadra, and Hamirpur. - Literacy rates in Uttar Pradesh were 67.68% overall with the highest male and female literacy rates in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Kanpur Nagar, and Lucknow and the lowest in Shravasti, Bahraich, and Balrampur.
