MAXQDA Analysis

Introduction

This assignment is aimed at using MAXQDA for analyzing interviews, along with

focusing on group transcripts by inductively coding the data as well as developing themes. For

this assignment, below is one of the coded segments and coding systems. At first, this process

appeared very boring; however, with the continuation of the process, the gathering of qualitative

data was understood very well, along with making it clear that it needs to reach saturation.

Although, this process did not come across the requirements of saturation so no other data could

be collected. With the collection of new data, the researcher needs to be capable of determining

that there is too large sample population, and the data turns out to be repetitive and finally will

turn out to be redundant.

Most of the qualitative size of the sample might be demonstrated by saturation; however,

there are additional factors that will assist in determining how slow or fast the research’s quality

can be attained (Claerbaut, 2016). For generating codes grounded on the exercise that started

with hand-coding, the data was imported into MAXQDA from hand-coding. Once the codes

were created, the segments’ assignment on text to codes was used for creating themes for the

chucked data, and after the completion, this data was imported into MS Excel. Below

screenshots are the output of MAXQDA queries results:

MAXQDA and Hand Coding

From the research of qualitative data, Hand Coding the data comprised raw data gathered

from special education interviews, along with the focus groups and finding patterns that were

present within the information. The transcripts were read a number of times for starting the

procedure, and information was highlighted for finding out the important phrase, keywords, and.

After the completion, MS Excel was utilized for aligning the data, along with grouping the data

for creating codes that eventually would develop a codebook for the process of hand-coding. To

use MAXQDA was a procedure like hand-coding for the reason that the researcher was prepared

by the familiarity attained from hand-coding to move forward with the directions and process.

Once the importing of transcripts in MAXQDA was completed, the assignment of codes came

with ease, along with the capability of chunking data points into cells that was a simpler method

of drag and click for the needed paragraphs. After the completion, there was the application of

color coding to the numerous segments for showing their differences and similarities. As the

research questions or storyline are remembered by the researcher during the process of coding,

the qualitative researcher will story focus on the relevant codes, along with using a data

dictionary for defining meanings of code. It will assist in keeping transparent the process

(Kuckartz & Rädiker, 2019).

Limitations and Benefits of MAXQDA

The production of abstracts, memos, and summaries was included in the benefits of using

MAXQDA as the process was made easier by the software. The capabilities of software-enabled

for organizing the data in numerous forms for including frequency counts and matrices, which

enabled conclusions to be quickly drawn, along with the assessment of numerous data

interpretation possibilities to be utilized. For using MAXQDA, one of the key benefits in this

specific study was its capability for managing the larger amount of information, along with

adding the essential consistency while processing and providing improvement for saturation with

the help of modeling. Finally, one more benefit was its capability of displaying the numerous

codes in terms of a child code for the main parent code for expanding the relationship (Silverman,
2013).

For qualitative data, MAXQDA software also has certain limitations including the

software’s cost that might become the reason for the researcher to keep away from this software.

With MAXQDA, the process was very helpful; however, it is time-consuming as the researcher

is required for doing double work because of the need to hand-code, along with translating the

data for the system usage. As it appears more time consuming, it would be more beneficial to

hand-code the information because of its capability of forcing the researcher for understanding,

pulling, and becoming an expert on the data because of the need for reading and searching. Hand

coding would not be accomplished if there was a need for using the software. The steps need to

be cut out at this point (Hatch, 2002).

Findings

For this narrative, the identified themes include challenges, goals, collaboration, and

transitions. Within the 3 documents, a need has been demonstrated by themes for seeing students

with special needs excel in a setting of secondary education with the help of parents, IEPs, staff,

along with establishing a foundation that would assist them in understanding that they can move

forward through a college setting. The identified themes in the previous assignment made the

process of moving data to MAXQDA very smooth to compile and import the data. Once the data

was imported to MAXQDA, comprehending the data was very easy because of the user-friendly

formatting provided by MAXQDA. This enables a fast route for attaining the essential

information, along with creating a finding narrative.

Conclusion

Qualitative research is a way that either can be accomplished by hand or with the help of

software like MAXQDA. Always, there needs to be caution that unexpected data will come

throughout the process of the research, and the researcher needs to have a plan for these types of

concerns. The process is time-consuming to read the documents a number of times yet there is a

need for ensuring that every relevant data has been comprised. For using the qualitative method,

one best point is to gather the human experience in a study and it assists in providing personal

incite to the readers. As the use of this software is perceived as a new process to analyze

humanized data, special care must be placed on data dignity.
