In the learning and formative years, a flash of above qualities was visible, when Arjun along
with his other royal brothers and royal cousin brothers were placed at then disposal of Guru
Dronacharya for teaching in warfare. Arjun had inclination and fascination for Dhanur Vidya
(bow and arrow expertise). He had the devotion for his Guru to treat him as God Brahma,
Vishnu and Maheswar, the creator, the manager and the destroyer respectively and identified
himself only as disciple of his Guru. Whenever Guru Dronacharya taught any concept and
technic of Dhanur Vidya, while others disciples remained satisfied what Guru taught them,
Arjun went on practicing the art relentlessly, till he achieved perfection, the sharpness even
surprised Guru Dronacharya. To test dedication, devotion towards him, Guru went to the
river and let a crocodile attack him, while all other disciples fled the spot to seek help from
others, Arjun took his Bow and Arrow and killed that crocodile. Finally, he emerged as best
disciple of Guru Dronacharya.
Arjun was disciplined and obedient to elders, even if he was a great warrior, he never
overstepped his limit, the ego never touched him. He willingly and unquestionably accepted
the decision of him eldest brother Yudhishthira when he had to go to the forest for twelve
years and another year in complete hideout, as per terms and condition of bet game (Pasha
Khela), he had with cousin brother Duryodhana. The trouble and tribulation of forest life did
not bother him, neither could derail him from main aim. He knew one day or other war with
Kouravs was inevitable and he would have to fight against great warriors like his own grand
father Bhismapitamaha, Guru Dronacharya, Guru Kripacharya, Duryodhana etc. Therefore,
he took that extreme adverse condition of long forest life as an opportunity to prepare himself
well for future big war. Even though he was a great warrior and had the capacity to defeat
entire Kouravs, more so when Lord Krishna Himself was in their side, he never felt
complacent and took his opponent lightly and went to Swarga Lok to acquired powerful
weapons from different God. Having got those, he also learnt dancing and playing of Dholak
from Gandharv of Swarga Lok on advice of Lord Indra that the special skill would help him
to hide during complete hideout in 13th year. For great warrior like Arjun, it was outstanding
demonstration of humbleness, foresight and willingness to change himself to handle an
adverse situation. He also excelled in dancing and playing of Dholak.
During 13th year and complete hideout, Arjun, along with hi four brothers and wife Draupadi
took shelter in the palace of king Virat and worked there in different capacity. It was a big
challenge for dominant personality and great warrior Arjun to keep him unnoticed by others
and in complete wilderness. But he did it successfully, as it was requirement of the time. He
played role of a transgender dancer and taught dance to Uttara, the princess of Virat
kingdom. He was excellent in that art; nobody could know his real identity. Arjun was loyal
and grateful to those who help him at the crucial time. Therefore, when Kourav Sena
attacked Virat Kingdom at the end of 13 th year and complete hideout, he fought Virat
Kingdom behalf and defeated Kourav Sena.
Like any other human being, he was also sometime fallible and influenced by emotion. But
great leadership qualities in him let him realize his duty and greater dharma and
responsibilities very soon and overcome these limitations. This has been amply demonstrated
during Mahabharat War. Initially, he was hesitant to fight against his near and dear one, his
respectful grandfather Bhismapitamaha, Guru Dronacharya, Guru Kripacharya etc. and get
Hastinapur Kingdom at the cost their life. Lord Krishna made him understand that that war
was not just a war between two groups of same extended family or just to get back
Hastinapur Kingdom or war against own grandfather Bhismapitamaha, Guru Dronacharya,
Guru Kripacharya, it was a war for elimination Adharma, injustice and but establishment of
Dharma, and peace and prosperity Hastinapur Kingdom. Arjun realized it and never looked
back and led the war from the front. Despite being the greatest Warrior, he was not arrogant,
not overconfident, neither egoistic. He listened to sage advice given by Lord Krishna, who
was Sarathi (driver) of his Chariot. He was humble and never lost respect for his grandfather
Bhismapitamaha, Guru Dronacharya, Guru Kripacharya even if they were the opponent in
the battle field, his first arrow of any day of war always touched the feet of these great
people. Finally, he won the battle of Mahabharat. Arjun, is a complete man and Hero.
