Importance of trade union
Answer 2 )
a) Attitude: Attitude refers to the way we approach an issue or
situation or anything in any respect. what's our mindset
regarding the topic, how will we behave instantly after
hearing of it, and even our facial and verbal reactions to a
given topic show us our attitude towards an issue. Attitudes
play an enormous role in our lives because everyone wants
to be around a personality with a nice attitude. Attitudes
decide how we are going to work, how we are going to feel
and the way we are going to behave. In this case study we
see the sympathetic attitude of the employees towards the
deceased employee and his family. We also see their
positive attitude and their belief in the management that
they would do the right thing.
(b) Values: Values refers to the individual deems right or wrong
within the day to day functioning of their lives. Would they hold
morals over temporary short-term profits or would they not?
This can be decided by the worth system of an individual. it's
their belief of right and wrong and therefore the extent to which
their own consciousness allows them to interrupt or bend round
the rules of their company or the society they board.
The employees started to work in the machine shop only after
the union and the management conducted a puja in the
machine shop to drive out any evil. This was due to the values
these employees followed or believed. And management
showed values by giving them 2,50,000 and a monthly pay of
4300
(c) Job Satisfaction: This concept refers to the satisfaction that
anyone gets from their job. There are many factors involved
within the measurement of job satisfaction, and these include
workplace environment, relation with senior management, perks
offered and interpersonal relationships.
In this case, management did a great job in maintaining job
satisfaction, they organised the festival day for their workers
and did beautiful arrangements for that. After that incident they
helped their workers, they supported their family. This all adds
to job satisfaction.
One more incident shows the level of job satisfaction among the
workers was high otherwise after such a tragic accident
happening in the machine shop the employees would’ve
panicked and started questioning the management but they
kept faith and kept working.
(d) Organizational Commitment: This concept refers to how in-
sync an employee feels with the corporate he/she works for.
The extent to which they believe the vision and mission of a
corporation, their goals and whether they feel a reference to the
corporate they work for, beyond just the aim of earning a salary.
Companies which inculcate a robust feeling of organizational
commitment are usually ones which work with total trust in their
teams, and permit individuals to voice their own ideas and
innovations.
They both had faith in each other. The management was
committed to solve any grievances of the employees and the
employees had faith that their managers would do the right
thing.
CASE 2
Analysis
The case is about the choice which Kokila the manager of a
company is trying to make between two employees of her
company for the post of task force leader who can come up with
a different marketing strategy for an already established product
.And to make that choice she took into consideration the Big
five personality factors .
The two employees are Akhil and Urmi . Where Akhil, who is
quiet and reserved and interacts relatively with his work peers.
He is very bright, a hard worker and very reliable in doing
structured work. He has never been observed to express either
positive or negative emotions. And on the other hand Urmi is an
extrovert and outgoing. She is creative and likes to try new
things. She has a vivid personality and can manage stress.
Theories Applied
The theory employed in this case study is The Big Five Personality
Model. This theory describes 5 traits which are most dominant in
someone. Analysing an individual with the assistance of this model
gives us a transparent picture of the type of person they are.
Companies attempt to match persons with a personality with the
work which might require such an individual. The traits are-
1. Openness: This talks about characteristics like imagination and
insight. People with this feature tend to own a broad range of
interests and that they approach new problems with enthusiasm.
people that are low on this trait prefer traditional methods of
working, and struggle with new thinking tracks.
2. Conscientiousness: This refers to the standard of finished work by
an employee. High levels of neatness, attention to detail and impulse
control are features of this trait. They plan ahead, consider
consequences and meet deadlines, always.
3. Extraversion: As the word implies this refers to the degree if
expression or sociability in an exceedingly person and the way they
conduct themselves in situations where there are crowds or multiple
persons. Extroverted people don't feel drained of energy even after
they add teams and don't have problems voicing their opinions.
4. Agreeableness: This refers to how pleasant an individual is in social
gatherings and their conduct. How people respond to them depends
on this trait. Cooperativeness stems from this trait.
5. Neuroticism: This is a trait characterised by sadness, moodiness,
and emotional instability. Individuals who are high during this trait
tend to experience mood swings, anxiety, irritability, and sadness.
Those low during this trait tend to be more stable and emotionally
resilient.
Answer to given questions
Answer 1)
According to me Kokila the manager of the company would chose
Urmi for the job of task force leader whose task would be to develop
a new marketing approach for an already established product .
Because Urmi fits better than Akhil as the role of team leader
because of her confidence (outgoing style and interacting easily with
others) , efficiency (her ability of enjoying solving problem),energy
(making good decisions in ambitious situations) , warmth , and
originality ( her expressive behaviour ). Also among the 5 big
personality traits she portrayed Extraversion , Agreeableness ,
Emotional Stability and Openness to experience which makes her the
perfect choice as a task force leader
