PERFORMANCE
ENHANCEMENT PROXIES
turboIP ®
With convergence of voice, data and video over satellite, some organizations are encountering
TCP/IP performance limitations. Typical satellite links exhibit both high latency and bit error rates
(impaired links), which can be challenging for the transmission of TCP.
Available in a 1RU platform, turboIP is deployed in government and military agencies plus
commercial environments around the globe. Common applications for this product are to support
organizations utilizing satellite links for Internet backbone trunking services and organizations with
large or evolving satellite bandwidth requirements for Internet traffic.

Vipersat Network Products
Satellite service providers and users are subject to increasing economic and time constraints
to deliver quality products. Comtech EF Data understands that you are dedicated to serving
your customers with the most efficient, cost-effective, reliable network available even though
capital and operational expenses are scrutinized and budgets are tight. Reliable bandwidth
and capacity management products that can justify their costs are desired to reduce the
operational expense of satellite transmissions. Our feature-rich Vipersat Network Products
work with our modems to help service providers achieve their technical and commercial
availability objectives for IP-based satellite networking. The Vipersat Network Products
solutions are server-based and include dynamically managed Single Carrier Per Channel
(dSCPC) and automatic application switching technologies. All aspects of the satellite
network can be configured, controlled and monitored while coordinating and optimizing
network bandwidth and capacity. Our solutions increase efficiency and provide real-time,
interactive connectivity in fixed and mobile satellite networks.
Our efficient satellite modem technologies combined with VMS provide dynamic SCPC
capacity management solutions. dSCPC facilitates bandwidth sharing, resulting in lower
space segment operating costs. Efficient, low latency and low jitter SCPC connections
can be established, torn down, and dynamically resized manually or automatically.
Virtual network operator
support (VNO)
The VNO capability provides remote user access into the VMS via
a server software application and a web-based client. VNO allows
service providers to selectively expose resources in their primary
network to external resellers, customers and/or operators. It utilizes
web-based technologies and enables flexibility in implementation of
key VMS functions. VNO enables hierarchical management of the
entire network down to select partitions. Each partition can define its
own service classes and QoS requirements.
ip eNCAPSULATOR
The Digicast IP Encapsulator is a Multi-Protocol Encapsulator (MPE) device that
encapsulates IP data into MPE format for distribution over satellite networks. It is
configurable in real-time, software upgradeable, and can be managed via Web,
console, Telnet and SNMP.
The unit is built on an embedded system platform capable of supporting high speed
data applications. The MENCAP IP Encapsulator can transport both Multicast and
Unicast traffic, as well as VLAN tagged packets.
Receivers & Filtering
Our Receivers are media routing devices that enable the reception of DVB-S and DVB-S2 transport
stream and IP-based multimedia content to be delivered over satellite or high-speed Asynchronous
Serial Interface (ASI) links and distributed to remote devices. The filtering functionality is offered by
the Media Router 6000, a versatile, combination platform.
The amplifiers use a low loss combining technique with microcontroller-based temperature versus gain
compensation. Compact rack heights make them ideal for the construction of small flyaway terminals,
remote and hub earth stations. Featuring user-friendly operation, the LCD menu display and cursor
control keys simplify status monitoring and configuration.
LPOD – Our extensive experience in the design of outdoor RF transceivers led to the LPOD family
of BUC products’ efficient thermal and mechanical package. Recognizing the evolution of L-Band IF
systems, the LPOD is designed to eliminate the traditional requirement for the modem to supply a DC
power source and a 10 MHz reference to the BUCs and LNBs. The LPOD’s optional internal reference
and LNB bias T greatly simplify multi-carrier operation and provide cost-effective redundant solutions.
Featuring an internal power supply, internal reference, and internal LNB bias capability, the LPOD units
offer very cost effective solutions for 1:1 redundant Tx and 1:1 redundant Rx requirements. And, the
compact size and weight make the units ideally suited to installations with limited mounting space.
Advanced technologies – HEMT devices for low noise temperature performance and GaAs FETs
for low intermodulation – plus a comprehensive set of options, allow our LNAs to excel in systems
ranging from VSATs to major earth stations.
Converters
Available in many frequencies, Comtech EF Data converters are ideal in a variety of applications:
° High capacity earth stations accessing many transponders, where space usage and economy
are prime considerations
° Analog TV
Our converters set the standards for reliability and cost-effective, high-performance frequency conversion.
High Gain – Our converters feature superior specifications for standard gain and output levels,
enabling longer cable runs and supporting elaborate combining networks without adding expensive,
external options.
Gain Compensation – Each converter includes automatic digital gain compensation to reduce
differences caused by fluctuations in the ambient temperature. This unprecedented gain stability can
lessen overall operating costs by decreasing satellite power and bandwidth usage.
Daisy Chain Switching (Patented) – The converters support redundant operation using
distributed protection switching in an active Daisy Chain configuration (U.S. Patent 5666646), providing
backup for 1 to 12 online converters. A high-speed bus provides the communications interface between
the backup and online converters to detect faults and reconfigure the subsystem to replace the failed
converter without affecting online converter operations.
Synthesizer Technology (Patented) – Using our analog/digital PLL technology (U.S. Patent
6028460), the converters provide the low phase noise performance of an analog PLL with the guaranteed
frequency accuracy of a digital PLL.
L-Band Converters
For L-Band applications, we offer the LBC-4000 Up/Down Converter System, which is an indoor converter
with two up or down converter modules accessed through the front panel. The up converter translates
70 MHz IF input (140 MHz optional) up to user-selectable frequency at L-Band, and the down converter
translates user-selectable L-Band to frequency in the 70 MHz IF band (140 MHz optional).
RF P R O D U C T S
Transceivers
Flexibility and ease of installation are integral to the
transceiver line. Redundant systems are an option, and a
number of full monitor and control methods are available,
such as convenient handheld terminals, EIA-232 or EIA-485
connections, and FSK control.

Ku-Band Transceivers
For the uplink side of Ku-Band installations, we offer split
converter/SSPA systems, which provide mounting flexibility for
smaller Ku-Band antennas. The receive side can include an LNA
for full frequency coverage, or a choice of Low Noise Block (LNB)
converters if the operating band is known. Both configurations are
feed-mounted, with or without a Transmit Reject Filter (TRF), with
solutions tailored to meet the needs of mobile/transportable or
fixed station uses.
Multi-Band Transceiver
The MBT-4000 is a unique, outdoor Multi-Band RF transceiver. It performs C-, X- or
Ku-Band to L-Band down conversion and L-Band to C-, X-, or Ku-Band up conversion.
