Please Prepare a brief monologue OR a brief song, OR a 1 minute monologue and 16 bars of a song. Total
audition time should not exceed 2 minutes. Bring picture and resume.

 THE FANTASTICKS

 EL GALLO: The captivating, mysterious narrator. El Gallo charms, seduces, delights, and frightens in
equal measure. A strong ability to talk to and connect with an audience. Male, 30s, any ethnicity.
 LUISA: A youthful, idealistic girl, Luisa leads with her heart. Warm and smart, but also a daydreamer.
She matures into a young woman who discovers what it means to keep and nurture love. Early 20’s to
play late teens (16, in the text) any ethnicity.
 MATT: A bright, energetic young man with a passionate, romantic nature. Matt longs for adventure and
falls in love with Luisa only to be pulled away by his desire to see the world.  Early 20s (nearly 20 in the
text) any ethnicity.
 BELLOMY: Father of Luisa. A peculiar, fastidious, and upright button salesman and a dear friend to
Hucklebee. Bellomy treasures his daughter and plants his vegetables in perfect rows. Felix Unger. 40s-
60s, any ethnicity.
 HUCKLEBEE: Father of Matt. A boisterous, gregarious neighbor and dear friend to Bellomy. His flower
garden and his son’s future are his passions. Oscar Madison. 40s-60s, any ethnicity.
 HENRY: A once-famous actor with a penchant for melodrama and a love for the grand gesture. He loves
nothing so much as the spotlight. Hired by El Gallo, he assists with the abduction and later guides Matt
on an ill-fated world tour. Male, over 60, any ethnicity.
 MORTIMER: A clown. An amateur actor who knows little of his art except how to die. He assists Henry
and El Gallo in the abduction. Male, young or old, any ethnicity.
 THE MUTE: A non-speaking actor, the foil to El Gallo, and an anarchic spirit. The mute has a strong
connection to the audience. Must have strong movement skills.Teens-30s. Any ethnicity, any gender,
trans, gender non-conforming, or non-binary actor’s are highly encouraged to attend.

 Aunt Eller, female, and ethnicity, 40’s-early 50’s, The town’s caregiver and strong-willed matriarch. A
fierce, no-nonsense determination and grit ground her from the storms of life as well a wicked sense of
humor, warm heart, and large and ebullient personality.
 
Laurey, female, any ethnicity, 20’s, A young woman living on a ranch but dreaming of more. While often
seen as just the object of two men’s affection, Laurey has a burgeoning sense of self and is on an
exciting journey of empowerment. She is smart, funny, and hopeful, and full of grit at times masked by
innocence.
 
Curly, male, any ethnicity, 20’s, A confident dreamer with a passion for life and a fervent desire for
more than his current world affords him. A heartfelt romantic with swagger, Curly knows how to use his
charms to his advantage in love and life.
 
Jud Fry, male, any ethnicity, 20’s, A misunderstood and cast-away ranch-hand whose heart of gold is
masked by a dark personality and brooding swagger. He is a hard worker, passionate, and longing for
the love of others and himself.
 
Ado Annie, female, any ethnicity, 20’s-early 30’s, A larger than life, lovable lover of romance and the
chase, Ado Annie has a strong sense of self and her charms. Her heart is in the right place, but
sometimes she doesn’t know where that is. Funny, but heartfelt and genuine at her core.
 
Will Parker, male, any ethnicity, 20’s-early 30’s, A cowboy with swagger and a zest for life, Will loves the
thrill of the chase, but may love being in love even more. He may not be the brightest needle in the
haystack, but his big heart, charming personality, and genuine positivity make him a winner anyway.
 
Ali Hakim, male, any ethnicity, 20’s-early 30’s, Ali is a traveling peddler with a strong sense of business
and even stronger love of pretty things and pretty women. He knows how to get what he wants until he
doesn’t want it anymore, but his charm and sense of humor belie that potential flaw.
 
Andrew Carnes, male, any ethnicity, 50’s, Ado Annie’s protective father with a heart of gold and a touch
of sass. A proud rancher and family man with a heart of gold until you cross him and his own.
