DISCUSSION

It really is possible to assess the fluidity and elongation of the given aggregate sample. In
form of balance efficiency, the deviation that may affect the results was considered minor.
Flakiness and elongation gauges are a reliable measuring tool as long as it passes the thickness
gauge or is kept on the longitudinal scale.

The experiment's objective is achieved and the suitability to be used as a crushed

aggregate road base is established. Crushed aggregate road base material must be crushed stone,
crushed gravel or a combination of crushed rock and gravel, which must be solid, durable, clean
and generally free of clay and other harmful materials. The product shall comply with the
following physical and mechanical quality requirements, one of which is the Flakiness Index
when checked according to MS 30.

Flakiness index and elongation index are significant mineral aggregate physical
properties that affect the quality of concrete mixes. Beyond certain thresholds, the presence of
flaky or elongated aggregates reduces compressive strength and causes extreme harshness in
concrete mixes. Flaky and elongated particles can adversely affect the mixture of concrete and
bituminous.

For example, flaky and elongated particles tend to reduce the concrete mix's workability,
which may impede long-term durability. Flaky particles are likely to break up and disintegrate
during the rolling cycle of the asphalt for bituminous mix. Flaky or elongated particles are
therefore considered undesirable since they cause pavement weakness. Flakiness index is the
weight percentage of particles in it, the largest dimension of which (i.e. length) is greater than
one and four-fifths times its mean dimension.
