After SEE ….. ???

Yes …..Engineering’s !!!

After appearing in the 10th standard exam, notoriously known as SLC (School

Leaving Certificate) or SEE (Secondary Education Examination) students probably
have about 3 months of time. Some uses this spare time to learn something new
while other use this time preparing for college entrance exams. However after the
result, the first question that comes to anyone’s mind is, “What should I study?” a
common question and yet very difficult to answer. This is a good question. I
actually think all the SLC appearing students should be asking this question.
Unfortunately, most of them don't care at all. At least I didn't when I was back in
school, and now think!!!

Lots of students find themselves lost while deciding the subject they want to study.
The decision must be taken wisely as the subject they chose determines their
further course of study and ultimately their professional career.

After the results, instead of thinking carefully, many would choose the subject their
friends did, other would listen to their parents/ relatives and mostly would choose
the subject based upon their marks/percentage.

Nepal’s system of governance is currently in transition. Since the adoption of the

2015 constitution. Prior to the recent reforms, in Education system students can
choose between two secondary tracks: general and vocational-technical.
The general curriculum includes compulsory subjects like Nepali, English, science,
etc. The vocational/technical stream, on the other hand, has a more applied focus in
subject areas like agriculture, medicine, forestry or engineering.

After saying all this I focused on the scope of “Engineering” in Nepal. The main
specialization of Engineering/ the most popular engineering fields in Nepal are:
(Civil, Electrical, Electronic, Arch, Computer, Mechanical, Biomedical) and there
are many other specializations in Engineering that are not much popular in Nepal.
Some are: (Biotech, Aeronautical, Geomatics, Geological, Environmental,
Automobile, Agricultural, Chemical, Food).

Engineering is a dynamic field with lots of specializations. Engineering holds a

bright and exciting future in Nepal as well as abroad. One can make his/her career
in governmental projects, private or public sector industries, construction
companies and on many other fields.

In our country the number of fresh graduate in Engineering is around 8000 per year
but the job market can only provide a maximum of 300 job per year. Most of the
engineers either have to find the way to gulf countries or be jobless and
underemployed in their homeland. Altogether 51 engineering colleges are giving
back 8000 graduates per year.

After all these, I mainly advice them by saying that whatever the situation or/and
whoever would say no matter, just think that, “what should i be in future to
determine my path to pursue mine own Happiness” so that, I could get satisfy in
my life without regretting .
