A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN………….

We welcome Reading Town tonight for the first ever visit of their Youth
squad after two home matches already between the two clubs at senior
level. Last time saw an exciting 5-3 match in the cup and I hope the
football is as entertaining tonight.
Welcome also to the officials and supporters from Reading, I hope you can sing as
well as your senior team’s posse!

A MESSAGE FROM THE DUGOUT…

I firstly would like to wish everyone all the compliments of the season, we
hope you have had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a
prosperous 2011.

Since we last met up, Mitchell Gutteridge, one of our younger members of
the squad, has signed up on contract with Bristol Rovers and we wish
Mitchell all the very best with this new challenge.

I also report the excellent news that Rory Knibbs has had a successful
back operation, and we hope to see him back on the training field in the
not too distant future.

Tonight is a very warm welcome back to football after the

recent weather and a chance to really test ourselves in
the League Cup, as we have drawn Premier Division
opposition in Reading Town and welcome them to the
Racecourse tonight.

We did not play in December and the 0-0 draw with

Binfield was our last game, and as a result we have lost
our lead at the top as Camberley Town made it five in a
row and take over at the top of the league by a point. We
look forward to being back in league action in the very near future.

You will see a committed performance again from the squad tonight and
there will be a few changes to tonight’s line up, as we try out a few
things ready for our promotion challenge in 2011.

WOMEN & GIRLS SECTION UPDATE.........

The club is proud to offer girls only football at a wide range of age groups starting
from under 10’s through to our Ladies section. Girls can start playing football at
AUFC at the mixed soccer school from as young as 6 years of age and when they
feel the need to move to girl only training, we accept them at 8 years of age into
our training programme. We have friendly & competitive sides from u10 & which
means girls at nine years of age can be playing football in a girls only environment,
but if they wish they can stay in mixed football until they reach under 12 when FA
rulings dictate the move to girls only football.

The section is headed by a UEFA ‘B’ coach with a FA level 2 qualification in sports
injuries since its inception, and all the managers & coaches must obtain at least a
FA level 1 in football coaching. Each team has its own qualified first aider and
where possible we try to ensure this is a female, especially at the older age groups.
So you can rest assured the players are well cared for as we also have our own
welfare officer.

The W&G section offer 7v7 football up to and including u12, thereafter we offer 11
a side football through to our u16 age group. Since establishing our ladies section
we now are pleased to offer natural progression to the girls football development
and shall be looking to run two teams in the near future to ensure the girls stay
within the sport and they play with players of equal ability.

Ascot United are ever mindful of the need for girls to have fun whilst they play at a
competitive level and also they are in a friendly and supportive environment. The
girls section has access to excellent training facilities and some wonderful playing
surfaces with our Ladies side playing at the clubs Racecourse main pitch with its
newly built stand and facilities.

We hope to achieve football development with a smile, and are always open to
receive new players at all ages. The open approach from the coaches brings the
best from the girls and we were proud to be the clubs first winners of a County
Cup, which was a huge achievement within the first 5 years of our being
established as a section. Just as important as winning competitive games, is the
way our opposition view our conduct and we are very pleased with the constant
high marks our teams are awarded for fair play.

No matter what the level of ability a girl / lady may be. We hope by joining Ascot
United they will develop as individuals and as part of a team , enjoying their
football , making new friends and playing with a smile.

THE ASCOT HISTORY…

Ascot United was founded in 1965 by a men’s team who played their games at
Sunninghill, with ‘after match meetings’ in the The Wells public house in Cheapside
village (now Mikado’s).
Within three seasons, the club had gained permission from the Ascot Racecourse
Trustees to convert the land north of coach park 10 into a football pitch. A wooden
clubhouse was built and this team went on to win many prestigious trophies in the
years that followed.

Some of the important

milestones in the club’s
history are:

198 The men’s senior team disbands.

199 A new clubhouse was erected at the Racecourse Ground.

200 The men’s senior team became champions of the Reading Senior League

The men’s senior team also win the Reading Evening Post Cup Final at the
Madjeski Stadium in Reading
200 The men’s senior team finish 4th in their first season in the 1st Division

200 The men’s senior team finish 2nd in the 1st Division and gain promotion to
9 the Premier Division – the clubs highest ever league status.

Ascot United are elected to the Allied Counties Youth League

201 The new clubhouse and playing surface are installed at the Racecourse

The Club today has grown to become one of the largest football clubs in the UK.
Currently there are over 750 registered players, embracing all ages from 5
upwards and all levels of ability.
Ascot United fields 68 teams every weekend including 4 adult teams and 5 girls’
teams. It is supported by 46 businesses who provide various forms of sponsorship
and is run by over 100 volunteers, 80 of whom have formal FA coaching
qualifications.
The clubs status was underlined in 2004 when it became an FA Charter Community
club, at the time only the 2nd club in Berkshire to receive this prestigious award.

THE ASCOT ALLIED COUNTIES

2010/2011 LATEST...
Tuesday 12th October vs. Bracknell Town

We expected a tough game on Tuesday and Bracknell delivered. Ascot made a few changes from the previous week to try
and freshen things up, as players were playing a lot of football this season. Ascot started brightly on a perfect surface, and it
was a game of few chances and contrasting styles.

Ascot had the lion's share of possession but it was a generally toothless performance as Bracknell soaked up everything
thrown at them, and were very well organised. The first half petered out, Lambert having the best chance of the half for
Ascot and Davies almost totally redundant in the Ascot goal.

The second half started no differently and Ascot were struggling to break down the Bracknell defensive line. Lawson had a
great chance to put Ascot ahead on 75 minutes and then Ascot had some pressure put on them, with Davies making two fine
saves. Tom Banks then heroically blocked a strike on the line leaving the imprint of the ball on his chest despite penalty
claims. Bracknell could have nicked it late on, but with all Ascot's possession, Bracknell were organised at the back and on
chances the draw was a fair result.

Ascot still top and now look forward to a break for a couple of weeks, the next game being a visit to Cove. Man of the match
was a close run thing between Tom Banks and the actual winner Alex Brown.

Wednesday 27th October vs. Cove FC
Manager Ady Milne took this opportunity during half term to try out a couple of youngsters with a few regulars on holiday.
There were debuts for U16's goalkeeper and centre back Ben Simmonds and Luke Neville and also saw U16's Marcus
Frederick and Ross Seldon in the squad.

Ascot, looking to find some good form again, started brightly and the game was end to end as Cove showed some great spirit
and were attacking at every opportunity. Ascot took the lead on 23 minutes when Rowley converted an excellent cross from
Sheraton. Within minutes, Cove were level, slack marking and an excellent header made it 1-1. On 34 minutes, back up
the other end Lawson hit the post, then Kelly made it 2-1 with a very brave and excellent finish. Kelly then limped off
injured to be replaced by 15 year old striker Marcus Frederick on 36 minutes. A superb strike by Cove on 38 minutes it was
now 2-2 and it was looking like it could be one of those nights. On 43 minutes, Frederick picked up the ball, beat two
players and scored a great goal to make it 3-2 at the break.

Skipper Jake Woolford was unable to continue after the break and was replaced by Ross Seldon and Callum Clark took the
arm band. In the second half, on 46 minutes, no doubt seething from the criticism of his first half performance, Jesse Wilson
scored to make it 4-2 and followed up with a flawless 45 minutes of defending. Ollie Lawson made it 5-2 on 60 minutes and
was then replaced by birthday boy Luke Neville for his Allied bow. The game was end to end for a while but then in the last
15 minutes on an energy sapping surface, petered out into almost a training game. Cove displayed great attacking
prowess, and have a good young side, keen to play good football.

Man of the match was Callum Clark and after a week's break it will be Premier Division Reading Town next at the Racecourse
in the League Cup on Thursday 11th November 2010.

The line-up :- Simmonds, Mulvaney, Wilson, Brown, Chandler, Rowley, Woolford (Seldon 45), Kelly (Frederick 36), Clark,
Sheraton, Lawson (Neville 67). Sub not used - Davies.

Tuesday 23rd November vs. Binfield FC

Ascot entertained Binfield at the Racecourse on Tuesday and in front of a decent crowd, were missing keeper Joe Davies,
injured Frazer Kelly, Arran Mulvaney and vice captain Callum Clark and first team centre back Jesse Wilson, sidelined with flu.
This gave Ascot the chance to give a league debut to under 16's Mitchell Gutteridge and Toby Goddard, a seasonal debut to
U17 centre back Mike Chiang and a return for U16 goalkeeper Ben Simmonds.

The first half started well for Ascot with a couple of decent opportunities, and Jordan Chandler striking the bar from a great
cross from Gutteridge. Binfield gradually got into the game but the majority of the rest of the half being played in the
middle third and no real chances at either end. Ascot would ave to step it up as Binfield were proving a resilient team and a
good match.

The second half was a slightly different story as Ascot really started to push forward and test the Binfield defending. A host
of chances and the woodwork struck again by Woolford and Lawson and some quality goalkeeping kept the scores level. Ben
Simmonds was then brought into action at the other end with a quality save from a great strike. Ross Seldon was playing
superbly in midfield and Ascot continued to press deep into injury time. The final score was a 0-0 shutout and fair play to
Binfield, they were well organised and on the night worked tirelessly, closing down at every opportunity and to a man got the
result their hard work deserved. Ascot played some great football in the second half, but lacked the final product despite
many opportunities.

Should Ascot feel hard done by, with the lion's share of possession, not really, how can you deserve to win if you do not
score. A disappointing result for Ascot though, who remain top of the league, but a game played in great spirit and
sportsmanship for a local derby.

Man of the match was U16 player, Ross Seldon, and the real promising aspect here, was of the Ascot team that dominated
the final 25 minutes, seven of them were 15 and 16 year olds and will be back again for another season or two.
