Single Phase DC/AC Converters
Equipment
Set up the circuit of a single phase inverter on Lucas Nulle equipment. A schematic diagram
of the rectifier system is shown in Fig. 1. The Lucas Nulle equipment picture for such a
system is presented in Fig. 2.

Set amplitude 40% and frequency at 50Hz. Power on the virtual instrument and observe the
voltage wave across load on a standard lab oscilloscope. Attach snapshot below.

Simulation:
Now simulate a single phase full bridge converter (with the anti-parallel didoes) in
MATLAB. Use Vin = 20V, resistive load of 1 ohms. First use it in square wave mode. Attach
figure and waveform below.
Simulink Diagram:
PWM Signal:
Perform a Fourier series analysis and attach harmonic spectrum picture below.
Then operate the same circuit via PWM. Generate a triangular wave (1kHz) and compare it
with a sine wave to produce the PWM. Attach snapshot of the load voltage waveform for one
cycle below.
Change the load to a highly inductive load (with R = 1 ohm and X L = 0.1 ohm) and attach the
snapshot of current for one cycle.
Perform FFT analysis of the load voltage and attach harmonic spectrum below.
Write a detailed note on what you have learnt/verified in this lab exercise.
1. inverter it produces more distortion in the current than the real ones.
