Imagine this. The Earth will only have different countries with different languages. No second languages
shall be known by the person, only their own mother tongue. Isn’t it hilarious to think that we – the ones who
are living here on Earth – would not understand one another not unless we have the same mother tongue?
Having different languages would not make any nation at peace and be unified with each other that’s why the
English language is now known to be the “most powerful language” used in our everyday life.
English is a language that is taught and inhabited in schools. Learning, knowing, and speaking English is
not the easiest thing to do, mostly if grammars mean a lot to you. There would be times that you would hate to
learn it just because it’s sometimes boring. But hey! There are still positive effects that the English language
gives that makes it powerful enough. First, it is the language of business. Yes, remember when you were told
that “The English language is not the basis of the person’s future.” Well think again. English is used by most
businessman, politicians, artists, and other successful people. You cannot negotiate or even associate with
another person if both of you cannot understand one another. In addition, when it comes to interviews for
works, the English language is the commonly used language just because it is their basis if the person would be
doing good communicating with their customers. Second, migration has been a crisis in different countries
nowadays, even in the Philippines. OFW’s are now spreading across the world just because they think that the
salary given here in the Philippines are not enough for their needs and satisfactions. You cannot migrate if you
would not know how to communicate with other nationalities because it is not them would adjust with you but
you would be the one to adjust with them. And most likely, the English language is known by most people for it
is the known second language all over the world. So, if you would migrate make sure that you know the English
language since this would be your temporary language while you’re in a different country. And lastly, English
is powerful just because I think it used everywhere. It is used for communicating with other people which is
connected with globalization. Globalization could be associating with other nations, and for us to do that. We
shall communicate with other nations too. Lately, we just had the ASEAN Summit here in the Philippines,
different nations are meeting for them to talk about the different crisis their countries undergo and how would
they make a solution for it. Have you heard someone in there speaking with their own language while
communicating with another one who’s not with the same nationality as them? No. They would speak in
English because that is where they could understand with one another.
As a conclusion, I could say that English is powerful in it’s own little and big ways. It is everywhere to
be seen and heard. English is very important for us, even if we’re only students for it will be the future’s
language. The English language is not always constant, the dictionary would be right today but it could be
wrong tomorrow. It is always a work in progress. Remember, the language we use influences the way we think.
So, THINK SMART AND SPEAK ENGLISH!
