Robert Alan once said “Cultural Differences should not separate us

from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings a collective

strength that can benefit all humanity.”

World culture was the center topic of this subject since first semester. We
discussed about the culture of Greece, Egypt, Mexico, France, UK, Puerto
Rico, India, Japan, China, North & South Korea, Singapore, and Saudi Arabia.
This was done to raise cultural awareness among the students. This was
deemed necessary for people who interact with other culture, for people who
viewed other cultures inappropriately especially those who patronized
racism, for people who were lacking respect and appreciation towards other
culture, and for people whose culture can be assimilated into another
existing culture.

Culture was and would always be vital to the identity of each country.
Culture is the way of life of people, our social heritage, and a treasure we
leave for the future generations.

Throughout this course, I had learned a lot and I would say I was very much
satisfied to take up this course. Not only it expanded my knowledge about
the culture differences, it also allowed me to somehow feel like I first
handedly experienced the cultures through the discussions of my
classmates. Also, it taught me how to appreciate my own culture and value
my freedom upon learning that not every country values democracy and
freedom of expressing one thyself.

I also got the chance to learn the do’s and don’ts of other countries and a
glimpse on their way of living. For a student who was planning to go abroad
someday or who wanted to work abroad, the knowledge would be a
necessity. And for a person who wanted to comingle with a lot of people
inside and beyond the country, such knowledge was definitely vital for
socialization.
As an aspiring accountant, the talk about the economy somehow intrigued
me. For instance, I got to learn how China was able to make a name for
herself. Same goes to other countries whose economies were blooming and
dominating. This somehow inspired me to think of new ideas and
contributions on how to improve my country someday.

The most impactful topic for me throughout the months was probably the life
of Koreans who were living in North. Why? It’s simply because my way of
living was the exact opposite of theirs. I could enjoy expressing myself and
voice out my feelings if I felt that the government, for example, was doing
unlawful or unethical things on social media. But for the Koreans, they
worship their leaders. They were sentimental when it comes to their leaders
and their secluded to their information. People couldn’t voice out their
opinions, they were limited to their styles, heck, and even the
communication level was controlled. It was really saddening for me but I
have to pay respect on their way of living. It was what that made their
identity. It might be too much for me, but perhaps, for the people living
there, it was an act of grace and mercy.

Besides all these mentioned above, I learned a lot more. Just like the quote
of Robert Alan, it’s not our differences that should stop us from aiming the
peace we all deserved. If we could all work our differences, it might work. Of
course, there would be retaliations in reality but it’s a process. We aim to
make a better future where everybody could benefit. After all, we might be
all different, but we are brothers and sisters.

Thus, not only this course was interesting… it was also somehow point-of-
view changing. If we would only allow ourselves to learn from one another
we can be achieving our goals. For together, if we all strive in unity… we
become successful!
