This document provides information about a course on materials development for language teaching. The course objectives are to develop an understanding of materials design aspects and critically evaluate existing materials. Assessment is based on procedural tasks like reviewing textbooks and designing authentic materials for a specific teaching context. The course also provides core and suggested further reading references on topics like materials design, needs analysis, and curriculum development.

designing effective materials for use in specific teaching contexts and for selecting from, adapting or supplementing the available ones as appropriate. Course objectives - develop a basic understanding of the various aspects of materials design. -critically evaluate materials in use in different teaching contexts and justify adaptation and/or supplementation of English language materials (published or in-house) Assessment
Assessment is based on both procedural and final assessment.
•Procedural Assessment (40%): - Textbook Review (20%): Select an English course book and a checklist to evaluate that book. Conclude by explaining whether or not you would recommend its adoption by your school (or any other institution of your choice) and why. - Textbook Review Presentation (20%) •Final assessment (60%) - Authentic Materials Design Project: Choose some authentic materials (e.g., a magazine article, a section of a TV schedule) and use them to plan teaching materials for a specific teaching context you are familiar with. Decide what the goals of the materials will be and what exercise types you will use with the materials. REFERENCES Core readings •McDonough, J., Shaw, C. & Masuhara, H. (2013).
