Alcoholism is a disease that is harmful to the human body in various ways, even to the
point of death. The addiction can be inherited from parents or come in by the influence of
friends. The addiction can stimulate happiness at the time of drinking, but it often results in
sadness overall. This is because alcoholism can take away money, family, jobs, and happiness.
Drinking can also destroy the organs in the human body, often confusing the brain as well.
Alcohol can lead to a long recovery or it can lead to death with no recovery. There is a twelve-
step program that helps alcoholics around the world. It starts by realizing that there is an
addiction to recover from, the people have to realize there is a problem. Alcohol can be hard to
understand because some can be good for the human body while more alcohol can take over
someone’s life. When the human body becomes dependent on alcohol it makes it more difficult
to recover.
Small amounts of alcohol can be good for the body, while larger amounts harm the
organs in the body. Studies have shown that small amounts of alcohol can reduce the risk of
heart attacks. This is because small quantities of alcohol can raise HDL, the good cholesterol.
Large amounts of alcohol can affect the central nervous system. This destroys brain cells and can
lead to memory loss. Excessive drinking can lead to permanent brain damage or death. Alcohol
is a depressant which causes the body to shut down after a certain amount. In a teenagers life,
peer pressure is involved which can lead to underage drinking. Studies have shown that the brain
is not fully developed until the age of about twenty-five. Underage drinking can stop cell growth
in the brain, this can lead to an undeveloped human body. Once someone starts drinking,
judgment begins to fade, and this can lead to bad decisions by teenagers especially. In
Oklahoma, there is a high teen pregnancy rate, this can be a result of drinking irresponsibly by
teenagers. Alcohol abuse while pregnant can lead to a premature baby, or a baby born with
health problems. People can be born with alcohol addictions because the mother had a drinking
problem. Teens who grow up around parents who drink are more likely to become an alcoholic.
Statistics say that the likelihood of a child becoming an alcoholic is considerably lower when
only one parent is an alcoholic. Binge drinking can lead to alcoholism which can cause major
The addiction to alcohol can cause problems in the home life. Being a drunk can take
away someone’s family. Drinking can separate married couples with kids and the young ones
often don’t understand. This can lead to having one parent growing up which causes future issues
with the kids. With that, the drunk parent usually doesn’t pay child support which can put the
responsible parent in a really tough situation. The alcoholic usually has a sad life consisting of
various other drugs due to the stimulation the body feels after the use of drugs. Sadness can also
affect how much a person drinks, and can be the leading reason that a person drinks. Alcohol
abuse can cost thousands of dollars over time. A twenty pack of beer costs around sixteen
dollars, buying a twenty pack 3 times a week can cost around 2500 dollars per year. Overtime an
alcohol addiction can interfere with the job of the consumer. Alcohol on the job can lead to
probation or a loss of the job. Not having a job and having an addiction can take a person down a
dark path of doing whatever it takes to get money to buy alcohol. This can take a person down
the road of dealing drugs because it seems easy to acquire money, but is misleading because it's
easy to get caught. Dealing drugs is illegal and can land someone in jail for a seriously long
amount of time. As stated, drug abuse can lead to a loss of everything. Drugs can take a toll on
the human body which can lead to an extended and hard recovery.
Once the human body is dependent on alcohol it can make the process of recovery
extremely difficult. Recovery is difficult because the body runs incorrectly without alcohol and
the person cant recover instantly. Most people that fall into alcoholism cannot make it out alone.
It is possible to quit drinking without help, but it makes the process that much more difficult.
Quitting alone requires a strong reason or motivation and is not done often. It is best to find help
whether it be family or rehab. Family can be a strong motivation to help alcoholics understand
drinking is harming the body. Some alcoholics believe that it is possible to stop all at once. To be
able to stop drinking the person needs to set goals, a drink limit, and eventually wean off of
alcohol. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a program for the alcoholic to get help. Al-Anon Family
Groups (AFG) is for the family members of the alcoholic to get help. There is a twelve step
program for recovering from addiction that helps thousands of people world-wide. The programs
gets people together so no one goes through recovery alone. Realizing that help is needed can be
a long and hard journey. Finally getting help can be one of the best decisions in life.
Alcohol can be hard to understand because some can be good for the body while large
amounts can take over someone’s life. When the human body becomes dependent on alcohol it
can make the process of quitting a long road. Alcohol addiction can harm the human body in
various ways including the physical muscles and the external life of the person. The liver is
mostly affected by the overuse of alcohol, and the family life of a person is affected as well.
Drinking can pretty well take everything in someone’s life if it is overused. Alcoholism costs lots
of items including family, money, and happiness. This can also cause a loss of a job in which
there is no money to keep the addiction going. When there is not a job to support the addiction
the person finds ways around it, even if costs jail time. Recovery from addiction is a long process
for most people and it takes quite a bit of time. Drinking often can lead to an addiction, don’t
become a victim to drinking because it can destroy more than just the alcoholics life.
