1 TUBE LABELING

The existing upward-pointing arrow (pointing towards the water con-

nection) has been replaced by a blue dot with a silver rim (diameter
15 mm); the existing downward-pointing arrow (pointing towards the
anode flange) has been replaced by a red dot with a silver rim (15 mm
in diameter).
If a tube with arrow labeling is replaced by a tube with dot labeling,
the labels "in" and "out" on the power output amplifier of the gener-
ator must also be replaced. The "in" sticker is replaced by a sticker with
a red dot and "out" is replaced by a sticker with a blue dot. The stick-
ers are included in the retrofitting kit.

2 TUBE EXCHANGE

Life threatening voltage!

The high voltages present in the generator are absolutely life-threaten-
ing and are also present at the RF output.
Even after switching off the generators, life-threatening voltages are
present at some components .
An additional danger exists due to the possibility of high voltage being
present on the water hoses!

Observe chapter "B Security" in the service manual of the

generator.

2.1 PREPARING THE GENERATOR

Ensure voltage-free ! Switch off the laser control and secure against reenergizing.
components
! Check for absence of voltage.

! Open the power output amplifier.

! Eliminate all residual voltages in the power output amplifier.

Observe the instructions given in chapter B.5: "Preparing for ser-
vice work" of the generators' service manual.

Draining the cooling ! Turn off the cooling water supply for the generator.
system
! Detach the cooling water supply at the generator (IN and OUT)
and drain the generator.

! Empty out the entire cooling system by carefully blowing it out

with compressed air.
Generators that are equipped with SIKA water monitors must be
blown out against the direction of the water flow.
Generators that are equipped with KOBOLD water monitors
must be blown out in the direction of the water flow.

! If cooling water has entered, dry the wet areas.

! Remove the tube together with reactive anodes, hoses and hose
clips (Fig.2.1, Fig.2.2, Fig.2.3 and Fig.2.4).
A detailed description may be found in Chapter 5 of the operat-
ing instructions for the generator.

DESIGNATION
In the power output ! Replace the "in" sticker by a sticker with a red dot.
amplifier Replace the "out" sticker by a sticker with a blue dot.
(Position of the stickers: see Fig.2.2, Fig.2.3, Fig.2.1 and Fig.2.4).
The stickers are included in the retrofitting kit.

Removed tube ! Label the removed tube according to Fig.2.5.
For tubes without labels, write the specifications directly onto
the tube.

e.g.: IS 22

Date of installation (note down for

may be read from the terminal of the

laser control

2.3 INSTALLATION OF THE NEW TUBE

Warning!
The generator tube is a sensitive component and must be handled
carefully. Observe the following measures in order to protect the tube
from damage.

Anode body

Ceramic part

Fig.2.6 Handling the generator tube

• The tube must be handled via the anode body when it is to be lifted
and it must be avoided touching the ceramic part (see Fig. 2.6).
• Always put the tube on a soft base (on sheets of felt or rubber)
when it is outside of the packaging.
• Avoid setting the tube down too heavily, or impacting it with tools
or other objects.
• Check the tube for visible damage after opening the packaging.

LABELING OF THE NEW TUBE

! Enter the current date on the new tube (Fig.2.5: "Date of start
up in IS".)

ORIENTATION
! Install the new tube as described in the operating instructions
for the generator.
Observe the tube's orientation according to Fig.2.7,
Fig.2.9Fig.2.8 and Fig.2.10.

CONNECTION OF THE WATER HOSES

! Connect the water hoses such that the blue dot on the tube con-
nects with the blue dot on the generator.
The hoses are connected correctly if they are in parallel and do
not cross each other.

2.4 SWITCHING THE GENERATOR ON AGAIN

Warning!
When commissioning the generator with a new tube, a preheating
time (laser control TASC: Laser ON) of at least 30 minutes must be ob-
served before operating the generator under power (laser control
TASC: Beam On).
