Production process of Silk
The process of silk production is known as sericulture. ...
*Sericulture, also called silk farming, is the process of making silk
fibers. It starts by raising silkworms and then processing the fibers they
produce.Silk fibres are combined into silk thread. The thread can then
be twisted into silk yarn or woven into silk cloth(fabric).
Extracting raw silk starts by cultivating the silkworms on mulberry
leaves.
Once the worms start pupating in their cocoons, these are dissolved
in boiling water in order for individual long fibres to be extracted and
fed into the spinning reel.

Stages of Silk Production
The stages of production are as follows:

Stages of production cont;
7. The silkworm spins approximately one mile of filament and completely
encloses itself in a cocoon in about two or three days. The amount of usable
quality silk in each cocoon is small. As a result, about 2,500 silkworms are
required to produce a pound of raw silk.
8. The whole cocoons are picked and boiled, killing the silkworm pupa.
9. The silk is obtained by brushing the undamaged cocoon to find the outside
end of the filament.
10. The silk filaments are then wound on a reel. One cocoon contains
approximately 1,000 yards of silk filament. The silk at this stage is known as
raw silk.
