Align yourself with the company:

(Understand the Job profile)

-Akshat Mittal, FYBBA-F; Roll no. 005

The aim of an interview is to leave a good impression on the interviewer/s and eventually get
hired at the company you want to work in. Aligning yourself with the company is an important
step to prepare for an interview as it showcases initiative and displays effort which is
appreciated by interviewers.
Aligning yourself with the company also means synchronizing what you expect from the job
and the company as an employer with what it expects from an ideal employee.

Title
A job title is a term that describes the position held by an employee. Depending on the job, a
job title can describe the level of the position or the responsibilities of the person holding the
position. Given your respected field of expertise, there are some titles you can apply for and
some that you can’t. The job title itself spells out what the person is expected to do.
Eg. Some job titles in marketing are content creator, SEO specialist, creative director,
product manager.

Function and responsibilities

Function and responsibilities tell you what your expected role is within the organization as an
employee with the given title.
Some examples of job responsibilities from a listing –
 Work with staff to provide customer service to assigned clients.
 Perform research lab functions including cleaning, equipment maintenance, supply
stock and other duties as assigned

Qualification and expectations

The necessary qualifications mandatory for the job level and expectations from the job. While
functions and responsibilities tell you what the ‘official’ responsibilities are, often job
expectations from the employer are more implicit in nature.
Eg. Staying at work till 8PM, working for at least 8 hours if you have flexible timings etc.
Career Path
You need to research what the growth in the job and at the company there is given your
experience, qualifications, and performance at the job.
Eg. Whether a low level entrant can rise in the corporate hierarchy and become manager or
is the career path capped at a job ceiling.

Salary Range
Often a hush-hush topic, but needs to be addressed for a proper understanding of both the
employer and the employee. Before going for the interview, reserch from websites like
Glassdoor about the expected salary range so that you can value your skills appropriately.
Eg. finding out that the expected salary for a copywriter is 7-8lakh p.a from glassdoor.

Travel expectation and other opportunities

Whether your role is an office job or are you expected to travel. You should find out the
policies like conveyance allowance and other opportunities outside of the work you’ll be
officially doing.
Eg. A sales worker’s job as a field agent requires travel while a copywriter can work from
home on some days which is a job opportunity.

Relocation
Are you expected to relocate for the job or can you work remotely. If you need to relocate,
are relocation expenses provided.
Eg. If the long-term employment is at a location 50+ miles from current work location a
relocation package can be provided.
