Case :
A woman travels from Canada to Bali. After she arrived in the airport she feel not fine in her
body. She feel heart burn sensation, difficult to swallow, chest pain, arising bitter and sour taste
in the mouth.
Counselor : nice to meet you too ms, where are you from ms?
Counselor : ok thank you for your information, what can I do for you ms?
Client : I feel heart burn sensation, difficult to swallow, chest pain, arising bitter and
sour taste in the mouth. And I have chronic cough and high stomach acid.
Client : the past month I feel these symptoms, and today after takeoff from airport I feel
again these symptoms.
Weight : 68 kg
Height : 162 cm
Counselor : oke ms, after I measure and calculated nutrition status, your body mass index
status is a overweight. And if I see from the symptoms that you feel, you have gerd disease. Do
you know what a gerd disease ?
Counselor : yes, very good. Gerd or Gastroesophageal reflux disease is a condition when
stomach acid rises to the esophagus, so that you feel heart burn sensation, difficult to swallow,
chest pain, arising bitter and sour taste in the mouth. Do you remember what you consumed the
last 24 hours ?
Client : hmm I am forget that, but I try to remember. Hmm I consumed in the morning I
eat pizza, cheese cake, and milk shake, in the afternoon I eat fried chicken mozzarella, French
fries, coffe , and in the airplane I drink wine, eat a fried chicken again, and a hotdog. And than I
go to sleep.
Counselor : thank you for your information . If I see that your disease, your illness comes
because of the wrong consumtion pattern. After you eat, you have wait for three hours , after that
you can sleep. Because if you go straight to sleep after eating, the stomach will not be effective
for digesting food and because that stomach acid rises to the esophagus.
Client : oh I see, other than that, is there another cause of gerd disease ?
Counselor : other causes are eating too much, consumsion fatty foods, overweight, ulcer and
drinking alcohol.
Client : what I shouldn’t eat in the meantime?
Counselor : oke i start planning a diet for you ms. This is your daily nutrition needs :
As for food ingredients that need to be avoidedis a hard rice, corn, sweet potatoes, fatty meat,
salted fish, junk food and fast food, fibrous and gassy vegetable example pineapple, jack fruit,
durian,cabbage,mustars greens, alcohol, sour food, spicy food, dried fruit. And you can eat soft
food example team rice,porridge, potatoes team or pure, spinach,bean,chayote, pumpkin,
carrot,,bean sprouts,long beans, tofu, and you can cook by boiling, steaming, sautés with a little
oil.
Client : thank you so much for information ms, usually I consumed junk food and fast
food every day.
Counselor : that’s my pleasure ms. For weight loss you can adjust your food pattern, and
diligent in sport minimal of three times a week, advoid it junkfood and fast food, more
consumption vegetable and fruit.
Counselor : yes ms, to reduce your intake of fat consumed, are you ready to reduce your
consumtion of junk food and fast food ? can you reduce consumed fast food and junk food three
times a week?
