Dear Sir/Madam,
I am interested to apply for the MSc in Animal Husbandry with specialisation in Poultry Production
and Nutrition at the University of New England as I believe that this particular programme is the best
step for preparing my long-term journey to be a poultry researcher.
Poultry has attracted me since my first time saw the enormous poultry farm on the second year of my
undergraduate degree at the Department of Animal Production, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM),
Indonesia. During the orientation of poultry science on September 2014, I was extremely excited to
watch the demonstration of closed house system that intelligently operates production to ensure
security biologically or contact with other organisms, in proper air ventilation setting thus reducing
livestock stress. That first impression has directly affected my personal interest in choosing future
career. Since then, I want to work as a poultry researcher in academic environment and industry.
In order to achieve that goal, during my undergraduate study, I strived to upgrade my theoretical
comprehension and research skills through academics and research activities.
I had a precious opportunity to hone my practical and theoretical skills while working as a laboratory
assistant in poultry science laboratory. In poultry laboratory, I conducted research about The effects of
difference initial feeding and drinking on small intestine and bursa fabricius of broiler chicken which
was adopted from several pertinent theories and other relevant subjects in my undergraduate study.
Apart from the research works, becoming a laboratory assistant also provides me with experiences to
take part on International Livestock, Feed, Dairy and Fisheries Expo and Forum . It was an excellent
chance to exchange knowledge and ideas with many poultry practitioners.
During the facet of university life, I took a role as laboratory assistant at the poultry laboratory for
three years. Of course, those experiences have taught me a lot and widen my understanding of poultry
particularly poultry management and nutrition. Moreover, many activities I got involved outside
academic area had made me realize that animal science scope in my country face many challenges.
This ranges from many kinds of environments to the less number of experts in spreading knowledge
to society.
Particularly I interest in studying more about poultry housing system and nutrition such as ventilation
setting, housing density, initial feeding. etc, in which they play a significant role in affecting animal
health and production. More importantly, there were still lacks of understanding among farmers
opened house system, which sometimes could have lethal effect in animal. Therefore, pursuing
master program related to my study background, fitted to my area of interest, and in accordance with
my future goals is kinds of necessity.
The main reason that encourages me to apply for MSc programme in animal husbandry with
specialisation in Poultry Science at the University of New England is that a wide opportunity given by
this programme to acquire strong research experiences. I am sure that there is no better preparation for
a future researcher than by actually doing research. University of New England with its Poultry
Science, supported by its renowned and qualified teaching and research staffs, will be a suitable
medium for succeeding my MSc project. Through this research group, I am particularly interested to
work under several Professors to contribute in a project exploring the topic of poultry housing in a
complex and feed nutrition for special purpose.
In addition to that, the curriculum given by the University of New England in MSc programme will be
a perfect catalyst for upgrading my theoretical comprehension in poultry field for succeeding my
future dreams. Thus, I am utterly interested to learn the offered courses, especially the standard
specialisation courses on Modern Housing System and Feed Nutrition, which are pertinent to my
proposed project.
After my master’s, I am keen on continuing my study to doctoral degree and I consider pursuing
poultry MSc in your institution as an important step to build my credentials as a researcher. Studying
in Armidale as an international student destination, with its vast opportunities and extensive links to
industrial companies and research institutions, I wish to expand my insight and networks for my
future career. By then, the experience, skill, attitude, and knowledge that I obtain during my proposed
study at University of New England will benefit me greatly in achieving my future success in order to
deliver significant contribution for human being.
Thank you for your time in considering my application, please feel free to contact me if you need
further information.
Sincerely yours,
Fauzy Hasby
