Cisco DNA is an open, extensible, and softw are-driven architecture. This structure provides application developers w ith a variety of
w ays to approach programmability and automation for both physical and virtual netw orks environments using Cisco and third-party
environments. Cisco DNA also complements Cisco's data center based Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) tec hnology by
extending a policy-driven approach and softw are strategy throughout the entire netw ork, from campus to branch, w ired to w ireless,
and core to edge.
Cisco DNA has five fundamental design principles for the netw orking softw are stack:

Virtualize everything to give organizations freedom of choice to run any service anyw here, independent of the underlying

fundamentally changes the approach to netw ork management.
Pervasive analytics to provide insights on the operation of the netw ork, IT infrastructure, and the business relative to
information that only the netw ork can provide.
Service m anagem ent delivered from the cloud to unify policy and orchestration across the netw ork enabling the agility of
cloud w ith the security and control of on-premises solutions.
Open, extensible , and program mable at every layer to integrate Cisco and third-party technology, open APIs, and a
developer platform to support a rich ecosystem of netw ork-enabled applications.
Cisco DNA takes netw ork programmability to the next step and beyond. It integrates netw ork controllers w ith IoT, the cloud,
virtualization, automation, security, collaboration, and more. This functionality assists businesses w ith creating new applications to
better analyze, automate, and manage the netw ork for their customers and for their ow n infrastructure. This netw ork management
can be combined w ith other tools, such as CMX, so that customer behavior can be tracked to better improve engagement and
sales.
