Project Title

To deduce the average speed of cars traveling to and from a designated area in School N and

to determine the average numbers of drivers who follow the speed limit set by the school

management.
Introduction

Students at school N, travel to school by various transportation modes. The school consists

of approximately 1825 students.

The speed limit at School N was set at 10 km/h. The school management has set this speed

limit for students who travel by car to ensure that safety is maximized, however it is common

that cars will break the speed limit for various reasons. It seems that the average amount of

commuters has problems with the speed limit as there has been a recent occurrence of

accidents on the campus.

The aim of the project is to determine the average speed of cars travelling to and out of a

designated zone at the school and the data collected will be later used to deduce the average

number of drivers following the speed limit. The findings will be used to make informed

decisions and to ascertain information of the number of drivers who follow the speed limit

and those who disobey. The researchers will make recommendations to the school

management where applicable to improve better commute time on school campus.

Method of data collection
The research ascertained the relevant information to complete this research as the researcher

used a stopwatch and a measuring tape. The researcher found a suitable area on the school

compound to collect data. The researcher used a measuring tape to measure a designated area

of the road. The speed was taken by method of the stopwatch for 10 cars entering and leaving

the school compound. Five cars entering and five leaving. The speed was calculated as

distance over time This data was the used to compare the number of cars following and

disobeying the speed limit of the school. The results were then tabulated.
Presentation of data

sketch of road
Analysis of data
Discussion of findings

The survey has revealed that the vehicles that travel through the school campus

stays within the speed limit. Evidence to prove this include:

1. All fifteen vehicles took less than 30s to travel from point a to point b.

2. The speed of the vehicles of proximity

3. The minimum speed may be a huge moving vehicle (truck) while the

maximum speed might be a small moving vehicle such as a car or bike

Conclusion

In conclusion the speed of vehicle travelling through the school campus might not affect the

children walking on the campus since most of the vehicles obey the recommended speed

limit. Evidence to prove this include:

1. All of the vehicles took less than 30s to travel in the designated area in which the

researcher investigated.

2. The speed of the vehicle are of proximity so it is safe for children to move along the

school campus safely.
