Ball Joint Tester
The TestResources Ball Joint Test System helps users conduct durability and performance tests
on passenger car and light truck ball joint systems. The test system is of robust mechanical design
based on rigid frame. This system applies tilt, rotation and axial loads to tie-rod end specimens.
There are different ball joints in a vehicle like, inner ball joint, upper ball joint, lower ball joint and
tie-rod end. This system also tests the durability of ball joint seals by applying rotation and
oscillation motion. This test system carries an environment chamber that can apply humidity,
temperature and slurry.

Oscillation angle test: This test is conducted to evaluate the oscillation angle of a ball joint.
Torque test: This test is conducted to evaluate the turning and oscillating torques of a ball
joint.
Rigidity test: This test is conducted to evaluate the rigidity of a ball joint.
Extrusion and drawing strength test: This test is conducted to evaluate the breaking
strength of the socket body or at the caulked portion of a ball joint.
Ball stud static strength test: This test is conducted to evaluate the strength of an outer ball
joint ball stud in the direction rectangular to its axis.
Fatigue strength test: This test is conducted to evaluate the fatigue strength of the socket
body and of the ball stud of a ball joint.
Muddy water durability test: This test is conducted to evaluate the sealing property of a ball
joint.
Dust cover Ozone-deterioration test: This test is conducted to evaluate the Ozone-
deterioration of a ball joint on the dust cover.
Dust cover low temperature test: This test is conducted to evaluate the temperature
resistance of the dust cover of a ball joint.
Dust cover heat resistance test: This test is conducted to evaluate the heat resistance of a
ball joint on the dust cover.
The test rig also has a common hydraulic power pack with other test systems which provides
hydraulic power to the linear actuators and torque motor.
The TestResources Model B03-402 Hydraulic Service Manifold is provided for hydraulics pressure
and flow regulation independently from the ring hydraulic power pack.
The TestResources ball joint test system employs the state-of-the-art 2360 digital servo controller.
The detailed description is provided in the later part of this manual. This versatile controller allows
users to set up test procedure easily and do the test. This controller is integrated with The
TestResources MTL32 software.
