ENGAGEMENT LETTER

I would like to thank you for choosing my firm for your legal services. I aim to handle your legal
matter promptly and effectively, and I encourage you to inform me if there is any way I can
improve the services I provide. I look forward to working with you.
LEGAL SERVICES
I confirm that you have retained me to perform the following legal services on your behalf:
During your engagement with my firm you will be the one to decide the general direction of your
cause such as the option to negotiate or to proceed to court or accept a settlement offer. Before
taking any action, I will ask for your instructions on how you want to proceed. I’ll usually make
a recommendation, but the final decision will be yours. Thereafter I will provide the legal
services necessary to carry out your directions. I can make no guarantees about the result of your
cause, but I will give you the possible and necessary legal services.
COMMUNICATION
Rest assured that all communications between us are confidential. Through this, you can provide
all the relevant facts to your cause without fear that the same will become public Also, I cannot
be compelled by the authorities, government agencies, or the courts to disclose information that is
subject to our attorney-client privilege. Information you provide us that is not privileged I treat as
confidential. Ethical rules of the legal profession define the limited conditions in which I can
disclose confidential matters of my clients. If you have any inquiries relative to privilege or
confidentiality of our communications, please feel free to ask them.
With respect to fees, I charge by the hour for the time I employ on your matter. Charges include
the time I devote on phone calls, travels, meetings, preparation, drafting documents, sending
correspondence, reviewing documents and files, research, court appearances, and all the time
spent providing your legal services. I make recordings of the time and services rendered and, if
needed, will include that record in the bills I send you.
Accordingly, the current hourly rates for lawyers is P500.00. I’ll notify you before changing said
rate. If you have any questions about the foregoing rates, please ask.
However, I may reduce or increase your bill to a fair and reasonable amount based on the
following factors:
d) the probability, if made known to you, that accepting this retainer will mean that I am
unable to accept other engagements;
OTHER CHARGES
Regarding charges for non-legal services, I will bill you only for photocopying. All other items
will be provided as part of my fee. If you have questions regarding the aforesaid charges, please
call. I want you to have a full understanding of the basis of said charges.
RETAINERS
Except for special arrangements, I require my clients to pay a retainer money to cover the fees
and disbursements for future works to be done. Wherein the same is kept in a trust account, to be
used for disbursements as they are incurred, and apply it to pay fees when I send you the bill.
When I submit a bill to you, I may ask you to bring the retainer back up to its previous value.
BILLINGS
To keep you informed about how much the engagement is costing you I will send you a
temporary bill every month. After the conclusion of your cause, I’ll send a final bill. After 30
days, I charge interest on the outstanding balance at rate of six (6) percent per annum until the bill
is fully paid.
TERMINATION OF LEGAL SERVICES
I do hope that neither of us would end our relationship early. If you decide to terminate my
services, I will render a final accounting of the charges and disbursements. If you have any
questions regarding terminating services, please call and ask.
If all the above-mentioned information reflects your full understanding of our engagement, please
sign and return the enclosed copy. Pursuant to my firm’s policy, I can’t start to work for you until
I have received both the signed letter and your retainer.
