D Visual Inspection:

The quality of cure shall be checked on the first 5 joints of the job
and twice each day thereafter by maintaining a MEK soaked pad
in contact with the coating surface for one minute and then SAES-H-201,
D1
rubbing vigorously for 15 seconds. Para. 8.2.3
There shall be no softening of the coating or substantial color
removal from the coating.

SAES-H-201,
D2 The finished coating shall have a uniform, glossy appearance.
Para. 8.2.4

Coating surface is free of coating defects such as visible SAES-H-201,

D3
holidays, fish eyes, lumps, dry spray, runs & sags. Para. 8.2.4
Width of covered area is as per Powder Manufacturers
Instruction/Procedure but not less than 280 mm centered on the SAES-H-201,
D4 weld. (Indicate Manufacturer's required width = __________ ) Para. 6.2

Coating overlap shall be within the thickness specified in SAES-

H-200 and / or as per the applicator's procedure approved. SAES-H-201,
D5
Para. 8.2.4

E Dry Film Thickness (DFT) measurement:

A minimum of six (6) DFT readings are taken on each field joint
coating including readings on the weld seam. SAES-H-201,
E1
Note: Thickness gauge shall be calibrated in accordance with Para. 8.2.2
SSPC PA-2

SAES-H-201,
E2 Dry Film Thickness (DFT) shall be 625 to 1000 microns.

F Holiday Testing and Adhesion Test

The coated girth weld surface area is 100% Holiday tested as
per SAIC-H-2016. SAES-H-201,
All holidays, imperfections, and damaged areas are carefully Para.8.3.1
identified and marked with a waterproof marker. &

Coating adhesion test is conducted as follows:

A) An X incision is made on coating up to metal substrate using a
sharp knife.
SAES-H-201,
B) Coating is pealed at the intersection of X using the knife point.
Para. 8.4.1
F2 C) Refusal of the coating to peel constitutes a PASS.
&
D) Partial or complete adhesion failure between the
Para. 8.4.2
coating and the metal substrate constitutes a failure. Cohesive
failure caused by voids in the coating leaving a honeycomb
structure on the specimen surface also constitutes failure.

If the coating fails adhesion test adjacent field girth weld areas
shall also be tested until acceptable coatings are found on both
sides of the defective coating. SAES-H-201,
F3
The defective coatings shall all be completely removed and the Para. 8.4.4
areas recoated. At least one of the repaired areas shall be re-
inspected.

The Adhesion test is performed once every hour.

SAES-H-201,
F4 Note: When five consecutive tests are successful, the frequency
Para. 8.4.3
shall be reduced to once every two hours.

G Repairs

All holidays, imperfections, and damaged areas are carefully SAES-H-201,

G1
identified and marked with a waterproof marker. Para. 8.3.2

Girth welds showing more than 3 holidays shall be completely SAES-H-201,

G2
blasted off and the area recoated. Para. 8.5.1

Pipe surface to be repaired are cleaned to remove all dirt and

damaged or disbonded coating using abrasive blasting or other
approved and suitable means. SAES-H-201,
G3
The edges of the original coatings shall be "feathered out" Para. 8.5.2
approximately 50 mm around the specific area to be
coated, and all dust wiped off before applying the patch coating.

Freshly patched coated areas shall be allowed to cure according SAES-H-201,

G4
to Manufacturer's recommendations prior to handling Para. 8.5.3

Patch repair areas shall be 100% holiday tested in accordance

SAES-H-201,
G5 as E1 above. No holidays shall be present on the girth weld after
Para. 8.5.4
patching.
