Wind load on superstructure and Substructure :

Wind loads are acting in Transverse direction on superstructure and Substructure

As per CL. 5.3 of IS : 875 ( Part - 3) -2015

Design wind speed ( Vz) = k1 k2 k3 k4 Vb

Basic wind speed ( Vb) = 50 m/s

k1 = 1.08 ( From table -1 )

k2 = 1.05 ( From table -2 for Terrain Category 1

Class B structure )
k3 = 1.0 ( FromCl 5.3.3.1 of IS : 875 part -3 )
k4 = 1.0

Design wind speed ( Vz) = 56.7 m/s

Design wind pressure ( Pz) = 0.6 Vz2

= 1929 N/m2

= 1.929 kN/m2

From Cl. No. 2.11.2 of IRS Bridge Rules, Limiting wind pressure for LL to be present = 150

= 1.4715
Therefore,
Wind forces for the following two conditions are to be considered

Case - I No Live load condition wind pressure = 1.929 kN/m2

Case - II Live load condition wind pressure = 1.4715 kN/m2

Projected area of the superstructure = 13.40 x (50.327-48.405) x 1.5

= 38.632 m2

Lever arm from C.G to top of bed block = (50.327-48.405)/2+(48.405-48.405) = 0.961

Projected area of the Train = (4.115-0.6)x13.4= = 47.101

Lever arm from C.G to top of bed block = (4.115-0.6)/2+0.6+(50.327-48.405) = 4.280

DESIGN OF PIER

INTRODUCTION :

This note presents the stability analysis of pier for the proposed Railway Bridge No 469
between Guntur and Guntakal section.
The span arrangement of this bridge is 3 x 12.2 m PSC slab. PSC slabs are as per RDSO drg No 10271.

The calculations are made and presented in the following pages for the foundation of pier
Pile foundations are proposed and the depth of the pile is 15 m .
Piles are of RCC M 30 grade, bored, cast-in-situ, friction cum end bearing piles.
The pier is made of mass concrete gravity type and the grade of concrete is M 25
The permssible stress in concrete are 8330 kN/ sq m in compression and 833 kN/sq m in tension

The design is made for 25 t axle loading standard

SHEAR FORCE

Shear force due to pile reactions in

transverse direction = 3 x 3121.79 /8.7 = 1076.48 kN

Shear force due to self wt of pile cap = 1.5x 25 = 37.5 kN

Net shear force = 1076.48 - 37.5 = 1038.98 kN

Design shear force = 1038.98 kN

Actual shear stress,

V = 1038.98x 1000/(1000 x 1415) = 0.73 N / mm2

% of reinforcement provided = 100 As / b d = 0.22 %

Vc = 0.406 N / mm2

S = (500 / d )1/4 = 0.76

Vc x S = 0.308 < V

Hence provide shear reinforcement

Area of stirrups, Asv = bSv ( V+0.40 - S Vc ) / 0.87 fy

Spacing of stirrups, Sv = 0.87 fy .Asv /[ b(V+0.4-S.Vc)]

providing 12 mm dia links 5 No.s 565 mm2

Sv = 0.87 x 415 x 565/[1000 x (0.73 + 0.4 - 0.76 x 0.406) ]= 247 mm

However Provide 12 mm dia tor links 200 x 200 mm c/c

Perimeter of the punching area around corner pile

750+2053.816+750+1307.5+750+750+1307.5 = 7668.82 mm

Maximum pile reaction, = 3121.79 kN

Punching shear stress, V = 3121.79x 1000/(7668.82 x1415) = 0.288 N/mm2

Permissible shear stress

% of reinforcement provided 100 As / b d

= 100 x3140 / (1000 x1415) = 0.03 %

Ultimate shear stress in concrete,Vc = 0.36 N/mm2 (Table 15 of IR CBC)

S = (500 / d )1/4= 0.771

Vc x S = 0.771 x0.36 = 0.278 < V

Hence safe in punching shear.

DESIGN OF BED BLOCK OVER PIER

Depth of bed Block = 450 mm

Width of Bed Block = 1200 mm

Since the bed block is fully resting on the pier, there is no bending in the bed block.

Hence minimum reinforcement is provided

Area of minimum reinforcement = 0.2x450x1200 = 1080 mm2

Provide 12 mm dia bars 10 no on top and bottom
