    What is bias?

    O Bias is a putting across an unfair or one-sided opinion.


    O Bias is being subjective as opposed to being objective.
    O We all have biases.

    Subjective Objective
    Influenced by past Not allowing bias to
    experiences. affect judgment.

    O Can you think of any types of text that are bias?


    O What about the media? E.g. news reports?
    O What about persuasive writing?
    O We can recognise bias in writing by the following:

    all with their eyes open – and each account will be different
    despite the fact they all saw the same thing?
    O Bias is like wearing sunglasses.
    O The sunglasses represent your past experiences e.g. how you

    describe it differently.
