visited there.

SCOPE:
To make this report we can find lots of thinks in website and as well as in many books and
visiting that place. These are helping most to write us report properly. In website and book so
many thinks are there its help a lot to find the exact think for our report.

LIMITATIONS:
Since we are find maximum information from the website and books and visiting there, there is a
possibility of getting wrong information unintentionally. We are working on the basis the
Museum of Currency with our knowledge and others knowledge .we try to do work more
accurately but the report findings may be has erroneous.

EXECITIVE SUMMARY
Currency Museum is the first museum in Bangladesh where the collection of the currency
showcasing for the general people. It’s a museum which holding lots of history of using the
currency and treading process. The Bangladesh Bank is opened this currency museum. There are
almost 8 thousand coins and notes are there. The varieties of notes of different countries and in
different centuries are there. Currency Museum started its journey on 27 April, 2013 at Mirpur
with the foundation stone laid by sheikh Hasina, honorable Prime Minister of the government of
the people’s republic of Bangladesh. The museum was inaugurated formally on 5 October, 2013
by Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, honorable speaker of the national assembly. From the
museum the young generation can learn a lot about the history of currency. How in the previous
time in the different period of different sultan’s which types of currency was used. In the
different sultan’s maximum sultans were used silver and gold coins for treading. Some of the
coins are only made for dedicating their gods. So that they try to designed that coin the symbol
of their god. And also they tried to keep secure their currencies so that they use different types of
pots.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Currency museum means a place where coins, tokens, paper money
and related objects are collected. It is the only specialized museum
on numismatics in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a place of historical
important of many years. All we know about the matter that a
museum conserves and exhibit the tradition, customs and heritage
of a country. When entering a museum, you can learn important
concepts that derived from history, tradition, customs, persons, art,
cultures and so on. There are a lot of historical and art museum and
galleries in Dhaka. I would like to tell about the currency museum.

Currency museum is located at Mirpur besides Bangladesh Bank Figure 1: Front of museum

The museum has thousand as of coins and notes from the Pala, Sena, Gupta, Sultani, Mughal
and British periods. About 2500 coins and notes found in Wari-Bateshwar of Narsingdi will
be reserved in this museum. Bangladesh numismatic collectors, society handed over 100
coins of different eras to the currency museum of Bangladesh Bank. (United News of

The museum authority has done many significant roles including preservation. Many local
and foreign visitors visit this museum every day. (Rentz)

• OPENING:

The museum was inaugurated formally on 5 October, 2013 by Dr. Shirin Sharmin
Chowdhury, honorable Speaker of the national assembly.

Bangladesh Bank Currency Museum, 1st floor, Bangladesh Bank Training Academy,
Mirpur-2, Dhaka- 1216.

1.2 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND


Currency Museum was established first as a currency museum in
2009 at Motijheel which was displaying currencies of almost all

countries of the world. But that was not open at all. Considering the Figure 2: Inauguration
importance and necessity Dr. Atiur Rahman, honorable governor of
Bangladesh Bank took the initiative to establish a full fledge currency museum in 2012
equipped with modern digital facilities so that the glorious history and traditions of our
currency can be preserved in a befitting manner. Later on this currency museum was named
as ‘Currency Museum’ or ‘Currency Jadughar’.

Currency Museum started its journey on 27 April, 2013 at Mirpur with the foundation stone
laid by sheikh Hasina, honorable Prime Minister of the government of the people’s republic
of Bangladesh. The museum was inaugurated formally on 5 October, 2013 by Dr. Shirin
Sharmin Chowdhury, honorable speaker of the national assembly. From then the museum is

2.1 COLLECTION
If someone feels to discover the history of currencies
and explore the aspect of evaluation of human
civilization, then the Currency museum or the currency
museum is the right place to do so.

Bangladesh bank established the museum. This museum


has the collection over eight thousand coins and paper

notes.

At the museum, the coins and currencies are currently being exhibited at two galleries. There
are 93 showcases the first gallery with 43 showcases contains near about 1100 object and the
story of coins and currencies start right from here.

Besides different currencies, the gallery also exhibits different pouches and pots which used
to be used to preserve coins in ancient times as well as different dices which were used to

2.1.1 LOCAL:

2.1.1.1 CURRENCY COLLECTION (Silver):


There is huge collection of harikel coins from old
archeological site, Mainamati, coins from Delhi Sultan,
bangle Sultan and Mughal Emperors. Gold coins of
Chandragupta are also one of the main attractions of the
gallery.From the symbols of British India from to the
Pakistani coins and bank notes till 1971 are also

When we visit the museum we see the huge types of local currencies are there. We saw

• Silver Punch Marked Coins from 2ᵑᵈ to 4ᵗʰ century


• Kushan coins
• Use of coins in ornaments
• Cowri used as currency

• Coins of Delhi Sultans (1206-1526 Years)
• Silver coins of Delhi Sultan Alauddin Masud Shah
• Silver coins of Nasir Uddin Mahamud etc.
• Coins of Bengal Sultan (1204-1576)
• Coins of the Independent Sultan of Bengal Fakhruddin Mubarak Shah
• Coins of the Independent Sultan of Bengal Alauddin Ali Shah etc.
• Coins of Mughal Emperor (1526-1707)
• Silver coins of Jalal Uddin Muhammad Akber
• Silver coins of Aorangageb Alamgir etc.

2.1.1.2 Gold Currencies:


• Gold coins of Sultan Muhammed Bin Tuglak Shah

(727 Hijri)

• Gold coins of Abbasi Khalifa (8ͭʰ century) etc.


• There are some gold coins which are made and dedicated

2.1.1.3 Commemorative notes of Bangladesh:


• 25 TK note for 25 years celebration of the security printing corporation Bangladesh
LTD.
• 40 TK note for 40 years victory day
• 60 TK for 60 years celebration of mother language day etc.

2.1.1.4 Commemorative silver coin:


Master Dice of German Mint for minting the 10 TK commemorative Silver coin on the
occasion of 150 birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore in 2011.

2.1.2 FOREIGN CURRENCY COLLECTION:


The second gallery showcases coins and currencies of about 120 countries including India,
China, Cambodia, Mauritius, Kazakhstan, Syria, Bahrain, Oman, Philippines, Sri-Lanka etc.

There is the collection of world biggest bank note from Russia and a smallest bank note is
from Germany.

• Bank notes of Antarctica
• Bank notes of Philippine
• Bank notes of Oman etc.

2.1.2.2 Gold currency:


In the currency museum there is Malaysian gold
currency.

2.1.2.3 Commemorative notes of foreign currency:

2.1.3 OTHERS COLLECTION:


Besides different currencies, the gallery also exhibits different pouches and pots which used
to be used to preserve coins in ancient times as well as different dices which were used to

In the other collection there is photo kiosk, a movie theater, varieties of coin holder or cash
box for holding money.

2.2 BENEFITS:
• Education: This will help young
people to know about the
currency’s history and its
evolution. The people can know
how people were treading with
currency in past. And what

• Learn from past: Not only the history of Money, this museum will also help people
to get acquainted with the lifestyle, education, culture and various aspects of
archaeological evolution of human civilization through coins and currencies of
different eras.
• Inspire new generation: It has been established with modern technology to attract
visitors. This will help young people to know about the currency’s history and its
evolution.
• Know the culture & lifestyle: From the history of currency or from the currency
museum we found that how the people work in past and how their culture was.
Museum helps us to found out their treading policy culture lifestyles etc. From the
museum we found that there are some currencies which making reason is only
dedicating to their god. So in this kind of things we can know about their culture.

2.3 ASPECTS:
The main aspects of Currency Museum are to collect, preserve, and display and research the
monitory tradition of Bangladesh. Currency Museum also discovers the untold story of the
currencies through various kinds of research and publications. Here coins and notes with
relevant objects have displayed attractively with detail information. Another important aspect
of the museum is to foster the history of money to the common people by the displayed
objects and provide the visitors immense pleasure. (Bangladesh Bank).

2.4 FUTURE PLAN:


Second floor of Bangladesh Bank Training Academy (BBTA) has been allocated for the
extension work of Currency Museum. A library, a
Conservation Laboratory, a multipurpose Cineplex
cum auditorium and a corner for children will be

In future they are upcoming items are moving cracker,

3.1 FINDINGS:
• Bearing food, gold ornaments and any kind of arms or explosives are strictly
prohibited in Currency Museum.
• Projectors are not working well.
• Historical data are not fully available in the each showcase.
• Insufficient space is there.

3.2 RECOMMENDATION
• We think there should be more history for gathering knowledge.
• We think they need more space for the currency showcases.

3.3 CONCLUSION
The museum will highlight the identity of Bangladesh like its national flag does; The new
museum is exciting and timely because it explains the evolution of currency from the ancient
era to modern times and the ways that people used it and how the currency has changed over
the past few millenniums.
