Fundamentals of Project Management
Date:
April 25-26, 2016
Description
This Learning Event is executed as part of the Centre of Expertise on Project Management.
The Aditya Birla Group has investments of US $ 10 billion committed to large scale projects
(Greenfield and Brownfield) in the manufacturing businesses by 2016. Additionally, all
businesses carry out small and medium scale projects of varying complexity regularly towards
improving unit operations in terms of Quality, Productivity and Cost. This requires a set of
managers will strong project execution capability.
Most junior and mid-management employees in the EPC teams of manufacturing projects are
usually selected for their technical skills, and not necessarily for their project management
capability. Further, large scale projects are executed only episodically, with the result of such
skills being lost (due to disuse) from managers with prior project experience as well. Since
project execution is predominantly done by outsourced contractors, it is important for the

Manage Others – South East Asia
Date:
TBD October
Description
The managers for this workshop in this Career Stage are called as “First time managers”. It has
been researched that this is one of the toughest transitions for any manager. This career stage
requires a major shift in skills and perspective from the previous one – from “doing” the work
to also getting the work done through others. From an Organization context, this career stage
is very critical, as it is the feeder line to the subsequent career stages.
The managerial activities like defining and planning the work, effectively delegating work,
organizing resources, measuring and monitoring of performance, problem solving and
motivating teams to get the work done become imperative to success. Notably, the first time
managers also need to value this “managerial” work. The 3 essential focus areas for this
program would be: Self Management, Task Leadership and People Leadership.
