VOTERS AWARENESS
A good Citizen’s guide to responsible voting

Why should I vote? Voting or Suffrage is a privilege and right given to every Filipino citizen. More
than anything else however, it is a responsibility that every Filipino is expected to fulfill in earnest.

By voting, a Filipino is given the opportunity to be directly involved in the affairs of the nation and have
a stake in national interest. Thus, voting is a privilege.

Whom should I Vote?

A Filipino will most certainly be met with a barrage of considerations in choosing his candidates. There
are however, some basic considerations that should be taken more critically than others.

VOTER’S EDUCATION PROGRAM

ELECTION. Is the means by which people choose their officials for definite and fixed periods.

What are the Different types of electoral exercises?

Regular Elections:

 National
 Local
 Barangay
 ARMM
 Sangguniang Kabataan(SK)

Special Elections:

 Plebiscite  Initiative
 Referendum  Recall
How Elections are often held?

a. Every 2nd Monday of May for national and Local Elections


o President and Vice – President : every 6 years
o Senators, Congressman, Provincial, City and Municipal Officials : every 3 years
b. Every last Monday of October, every 3 years for Barangay and SK Officials
c. Every 3 years from March 1993 : ARMM Elections

REGISTRATION. Refers to the act of accomplishing and filing of a sworn application for registration by a
qualified voter

Why should I register?

To have the opportunity to choose our leaders

What’s in it for me?

Just like text voting, you get heard counted.

What are the requirements for registration?

One must be:

o A Filipino Citizen
o At least eighteen (18) years old
o A resident of the Philippines for 1 year and of the city or municipality wherein he proposes to
vote for at least 6 months immediately preceding the election
o Not otherwise disqualified by the law

What is validation for registration?

A process wherein fingerprints of the voter would be captured electronically at no expense to the voter

Comelec Office

How do I go about transferring my registration?
 You may apply the election officer of new residence for the transfer of your registration records
 You will be asked to accomplish 6 application forms
