 All corner, end, pull, and gate posts shall be braced as shown on the drawings.
 Pull posts shall be used at sharp breaks in vertical grade or as directed by the
Consultant.

Installation of chainlink fabric

Fabric shall be securely attached to end, corner, gate and pull posts in accordance with
manufacturer’s recommendations. All fabrics shall be taut before attaching to line posts
or tension wire. High and size for the fabric should follow as per construction drawing.

(a) Weaving chainlink fabric

 A weave is continuous from top to bottom
 Untwist the ends and spin it out to disconnect
 Do not cut the ends, the weave can be reused
 Reverse the process to ‘weave’ two sections together.
 Re-bend or twist ends together

(b) Stretching chainlink fabric

 After rolling out the chain link and weaving the rolls together, ‘hook-up’ one end.
Make sure the nuts are on the inside of the fence so they cannot be removed from
outside the enclosure.
 Pull the chain link tight by hand to the other end.
 Stretch the fence using stretch tools. Do not over tighten.
 ‘Dress’ the fabric as tighten it. ‘Dressing’ involves straightening the fabric
diamonds, so they run true.
 Hand stretch the small section of chain link left between the come-a-long and
terminal post by hand. Slide the tension bar into the mesh and make the last
hook-up. Once all bolts are in place, remove the stretching tools.

Fencing kerb
 After the installation of fence post and chainlink fabric, excavate topsoil and erect
formwork for kerb.
 The height of kerb shall be 150mm.
 Pour concrete mix of Grader C25 and compact with vibrator moderately
 Allow curing process for at least 24 hours before removal of formwork

Fencing barbed wire

 Select end and corner locations.

 Carefully unroll end of 4' to 8' of barbed wire and fasten by wrapping around
starting post and back onto itself at desired height for lowest strand.
 Carefully unroll the barbed wire to end of fence.
 Tension wire with Chain Wire Strainer at end. Cut wire to length and fasten wire at
desired height as done at the beginning.
 Cut barbed wire to length and fasten wire as done at the beginning.
 The first wire should be adjusted (to obtain a straight line) along the fence line
with light tension by picking wire up to a height of 4' to 6' then dropping wire. This
process should be repeated until straight line from beginning to end is achieved.
This process will allow wire to fall creating a straight line for the fence to follow.
 Using the first wire as a straight line, install line posts (wood or steel) at 15' to 20'
apart, adjusting distance as necessary. (High- pressure fences like feed lots will
need heavier posts, closer together.)
 Fasten barbed wire to T post with wire clip (usually provided with new T posts)
and/or staple barbed wire to wood posts leaving room for wire to "float" when
stapled (Do not staple wire tight to post.)
 When installing line posts make sure that any post that will have strain (vertical or
horizontal) on it is stout and secure enough to take the strain. As in wood post 5"
to 6" × 8' (multiples if necessary) in dips or other low areas and on crowns or high
areas.
 Repeat necessary process for additional wires.

5.3 Turfing

Preparing turf
Turf should be cut the same day as it is to be placed; if this is not possible, it should be
kept very moist in a shady place. To cut the turf:
 Mark out with lines the size and shape to be cut (200 mm square is easy to
manage but 300 × 300 mm is better)
 Cut the sides of the shapes with a khukuri, to at least 50-mm depth
 Using a broad, flat shovel with a sharp edge, cut horizontally under the shapes
and lift them out.

Placing turf
 Well in advance of the turfing operation, thoroughly smooth the surface to be
covered. It is most important to obliterate all irregularities
 If the slope to be turfed is a gravel-fill embankment, then a 50-mm layer of topsoil
should be laid and compacted by hand
 Immediately before placing the turf, scarify the ground surface slightly and water
it well if it is not already moist
 Place the turf, taking care to fit the pieces together with no gaps between. Use
the khukuri to cut the pieces to shape
 If the slope is steeper than about 25°, wooden pegs (bamboo stakes) should be
hammered through the turf to stop it sliding
 Once the slope has been satisfactorily covered, compact the turf with the wooden
rammer.
 Finally, water the fresh turf thoroughly and regularly.

 Ensure the moving wheels of the tandem steel roller and pneumatic tyre roller are
cleaned with water
 Each layer of premix shall be rolled after adding sufficient water.
 The proposed rolling pattern as follows:
 Initial rolling – 2 passes using tandem steel roller
 Second rolling – 2 passes using tandem steel roller with vibrating
 Principal rolling – 12 passes using pneumatic tyre roller
 Last rolling – 2 passes using tandem steel roller
 Rolling shall always commence from the lower to the higher side of the
carriageway.
 The surface of asphaltic pavement shall be finished to the grade and line as
required and a joint survey shall be carried out to confirm these.
 Road shall not be opened to traffic until the compacted premix has thoroughly
cooled and set in the opinion of the Engineer’s representative. This is usually not
less than 4 hours from the initial of rolling.
