The Overview
The Cafe Sports Pub, was once the Roxy Cinema which was opened as the Picture
House on 15th July 1929
It had a stadium style auditorium with raised seating at the rear which it called the
circle that had almost 200 seats. The total seating capacity was for 904.
The Roxy Cinema closed suddenly on Saturday 3rd April 1965 with John Wayne in
"The Magnificent Showman" (aka "Circus World")
After several years in a boarded up state it became a skateboard centre, then when that
craze began to wane it was converted into a squash club. It is still open and known as
Cafe Sport
The Sightings
Our team of investigators arrived at cafe sport around 8pm and went about setting up
our equipment,
we set the main camcorder up in the big hall opposite the bar area, which is situated
on the 1st floor of the building.
Cafe sport is a large pub with three floors, a cellar that is used as a massive gym, the
bar and bingo hall area 'as it used
to be'on the 1st floor and the snooker rooms upstairs on the 2nd floor.
After setting up our equipment and then chatting to the staff, we were told of noises
been heard coming up cellar steps, a shaddow been seen along one of it's corridoors
near the toilets and a man been seen at the end of the pubs bar area.
Although our group PR pride theirselfs in trying to prove and debunk situations of
paranormal activity, we also tell each and every member to expect nothing, no matter
how haunted or eerie looking a place may appear to seem.Let me assure you that in
the cafe sport we really did expect just that ''nothing'', little did we know just how
wrong we was to be.
The glass remained stationary 'however' the table began to rise,as shocked as i was i
imedietly 'along with other members'whipped my chair back to reassure myself and
others that no one was actually moving anything with their legs, our group and
sceptics were amazed, the table as sure as anything was aloft by itself. One of our
members ran to get the camcorder which had been recording us all but notlow enough
to record under the table, we all agreed that the table still sempt to be aloft by the time
our member got the cam nearer, so hopefully we have that on footage.
The table was made of oak and very solid, a few members and myself tried to tilt it
but it was heavy to move, although it was possible to move with some force, i
personally do not believe anyone could have lifted that table with all our hands flat to
the table and barely touching it. After our team member came lower down with the
camcorder, the table dropped to the ground as if in a slamming motion.
Another interesting moment was in the very next room we were to do' a room to the
backend of the bar, the room was a large room with plenty of seating area and in the
middle of the room hung a punch bag, which we took note of being stationary when
we first entered. we desided as expectations were now high to ask out if anyone was
there to move this big heavy punchbag, all of a sudden the bag began to swing slowly
which we also was able to capture on camera.
The sceptic among us suggested that we stop it incase one of us had caused a draft,
one of our members stopped the bag from swaying and we asked out again '' is there
anyone there? and if so can you make the bag swing once more'', the bag swung again
lightly as if hardly moving, the k2 metre was also going off.
The cellar was our next room to head for and although nothing much was seen or
heard down there, i stopped as i thought i had seen a image but i was'nt sure if it
might be my imagination or not until, another member asked if the reason i had
stopped was cause of a image sat on a wieght bench. It certainly makes one think 'is it
a coincidence we saw the same thing in the same spot or was it a image after all?.
After the cellar our invest was nearly over but we had one last place to do and that
was the snooker room on the top floor. This also was to prove quite interesting as
again, when one of our team called out '' is anyone there to give some sort of sign'', a
loud growl was clearly heard by each and every member.
PR were really pleased with this invest afterall, and we would most definately jump at
the chance to do it again. It just goes to show 'don't expect the unexpected and you
might just be in for the shock of your life.
Project Reveal would like to thank all the staff and landlord at the cafe sport for
allowing us into their
premises to do what became a fantastic invest, thanks from all of PR.
