The document discusses the structural design of various components of a sewage treatment plant including the sump well, top slab, base slab, walls, and phytorid bed.

The main components discussed in the design are the sump well, top slab, and base slab of the sump well, and the design of the phytorid bed.

The sump well is designed by calculating the bending moments and tensions in the walls and designing the reinforcement accordingly. The top slab and base slab of the sump well are also designed.

Horizontal moments at the corner in long and short wall produce unbalanced moment at

the joint. This unbalanced moment has to be distributed to get balanced moment using

moment distribution method.

Net bending moment (M’) = M - Tx

Where, x = d - D/2 = 172 - 230/2 = 57 mm

M’ = 21.2264 - (74.24*0.057) = 17 kN-m

Ast1 = M’/σstjd = 757.37 mm2

Ast2 = T/σst = 494.93 mm2

Ast = Ast1 + Ast2 = 1252.3 mm2

Spacing of 16 mm Ф bars required = 160.50 mm

Provide 16 mm Ф bars @ 150 mm c/c (At Corners) - No need as we are already

providing (12 mm @ 200 mm at corners which is overlapping 3 times giving Ast = 3*565

Design of Base slab of Phytorid Bed:

Load of Stored Water + Filter Media upto 2.3 m = (14.5 kN/m3)*(2.3 m)*(26.47 m*24 m)
= 21186.59 kN

Walls Load = (25kN/m3)*[3*4*(2.1*6*0.15) + (24.69*12.46*0.23) + 3*(25.93*5.5*0.25) +

2*(27.16*5.5*0.25)] =6877.20 kN

Dead Load of Foundation = (25 kN/m3)*(0.2m)*(26 m)*(28.47 m) = 3701.1 kN

Total Load (w) = 31764.89 kN

Safe Bearing Capacity of Soil = 50 kN/m2

Area of Foundation Required = 31764.89 kN/50 m2 = 635.30 m2

Proposed Size of Foundation = 26 m X 28.47 m = 740.22 m2

∴ Extending 0.5 m from the outer side of wall

Soil Pressure (q) = (31764.89 kN)/(740.22 m2) = 42.91 ≃ 43 kN/m2

Considering 1 m width of raft slab

Bending Moment = (43 kN/m2)*(0.5)2/2 = 5.38 kN-m

deff, req = √M/Qb = 57.10 mm, say 60 mm

Clear cover on inner face = 50 mm, Clear cover on outer face = 50 mm

Dreq = 60+50+16/2 = 118 mm

Provide D = 200 mm, Clear Cover = 50 mm, Dia of Bar = 16 mm

[∴ As per cl. 4.8 IS 1080 the minimum thickness for base slab with no reinforcement is
150 mm. Since we are providing reinforcement and load is heavy beneath the walls
provide a base slab of 200 mm thickness]

deff = 200 - 50 - 16/2 = 142 mm

Ast = M/σstjd = 290.32 mm2

Minimum positive reinforcement required = 0.3*1000*200/100 = 600 mm2

Spacing of 16 mm Ф bars required for minimum reinforcement = 335 mm
