1. Sumpwell Walls
Assuming walls are hinged with base slab and top slab
Hence, Provide 12mm Ф bars @ 200 mm c/c (Outer Face - Vertical Main bars)
Provide Hoop steel 12mm Ф bars @ 120mm c/c (Outer Face - Circular Horizontal bars)
σc (Stress in Concrete) = Tmax/(1000t + (m-1)Ast) = 0.581 kN/m2 < 1.47kN/m2 (OK)
Provide 12mm Ф bars @ 200 mm c/c (Inner face - Vertical and Horizontal)
Design of Top Slab of Sump Well:
V = 0.5wr
Live load = 2 kN/m2 [∴ Pumps and other machinery to be established on top slab]
V = 5.65 kN
d >= 20.32 mm
Dreq = 60 + 30 + 8/2 = 94 mm
Since, Dreq is less than the thickness of RCC cover for opening and for good workability
[∴ As per cl. 4.8 IS 1080 the minimum thickness for base slab with no reinforcement is
150 mm. Since we are providing reinforcement and load is heavy beneath the walls
provide a base slab of 200 mm thickness]
Assuming walls are hinged with base slab and top slab
Horizontal moments at the corner is very less. No need for Corner steel.
Provide 12 mm Ф bars @ 300 mm c/c (Inner face - Vertical and Horizontal, Outer face -
Horizontal)
Dreq = 20+50+16/2 = 78 mm
1. Tank Walls
4. Hanging Walls
Assuming walls are fixed with base slab and top slab is free
L (Length) = 6.81 + 0.2 + 0.2 = 7.21 m, B (Breadth) = 5.5 + 0.2 + 0.2 = 5.9 m
Tension in wall is computed at section at height H1 from base, where H1 is Max of (1m,
H/4) i.e. H1 = 1.04m
Provide 12 mm Ф bars @ 150mm c/c (Inner Face - Horizontal, Outer Face - Vertical and
Horizontal)
Horizontal moments at the corner in long and short wall produce unbalanced moment at
the joint. This unbalanced moment has to be distributed to get balanced moment using
ΣK = 4EI/3.24

Design of Hanging walls for Sedimentation Tank - No load is coming on the wall
hence minimum reinforcement 0.12% is provided with 8 mm Ф bars @ 200mm c/c on
one side in both directions.

Load of Stored Water + Filter Media upto 2.3 m = (14.5 kN/m3)*(2.3 m)*(26.47 m*24 m)
= 21186.59 kN
