Normality is a measure of concentration equal to the gram equivalent weight per

liter of solution. Gram equivalent weight is the measure of the reactive capacity of
a molecule. The solute's role in the reaction determines the
solution's normality. Normality is also known as the equivalent concentration of a
solution. (https://www.thoughtco.com › definition-of-normality-in-chemistry-

Multiply the normality by the mass equivalent and the volume of the solution (in
L) to calculate mass (in grams) of the dissolved compound. In this
example, the mass of H2SO4 is 2.5 N x 49g/equivalent x 0.24L = 29.4g.

Examples :

The easiest way to find normality is from molarity. All you need to know are how
many mole of ions dissociate. For example, a 1 M sulfuric acid (H2SO4) is 2 N for
acid-base reactions because each mole of sulfuric acid provides 2 moles of H+ ions.

1 M sulfuric acid is 1 N for sulfate precipitation since 1 mole of sulfuric acid

provides 1 mole of sulfate ions.

36.5 grams of hydrochloric acid (HCl) is a 1 N (one normal) solution of HCl.

A normal is one gram equivalent of a solute per liter of solution.

Since hydrochloric acid is a strong acid that dissociates completely in water, a 1 N
solution of HCl would also be 1 N for H+ or Cl- ions for acid-base reactions.

Stoichiometry is a section of chemistry that involves using relationships between

reactants and/or products in a chemical reaction to determine desired quantitative
data. In Greek, stoikhein means element and metron means measure,
so stoichiometry literally translated means the measure of elements.

Thus, to calculate the stoichiometry by mass, the number of molecules required

for each reactant is expressed in moles and multiplied by the molar mass of each to
give the mass of each reactant per mole of reaction. The mass ratios can
be calculated by dividing each by the total in the whole reaction.
For example, when oxygen and hydrogen react to produce water, one mole of
oxygen reacts with two moles of hydrogen to produce two moles of water. In
addition, stoichiometry can be used to find quantities such as the amount of
products that can be produced with a given amount of reactants and percent yield.

There are four steps in solving a stoichiometry problem:

1. Write the balanced chemical equation.
2. Convert the units of the given substance (A) to moles.
3. Use the mole ratio to calculate the moles of wanted substance (B).
4. Convert moles of the wanted substance to the desired units.
