A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 7

Unit II, Module 5: INTERACTIONS

Date: October 14, 2019 (8:30-9:30 a.m.)

Grade & Section: Grade 7-

Duration: 1 hour

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of organisms interacting with

each other and with their environment to survive

B. Performance Standards: The learners shall be able to: conduct a collaborative action to preserve
the ecosystem in the locality
C. Learning Competency: describe the different ecological relationships found in an ecosystem;
S7LT-IIh10

D. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to perform the following activities with at
least 75% proficiency:
Knowledge: Describe how producers, first order consumer, second order consumer, and third
order consumer gets its food.
Skills: Construct a food chain showing how energy flow from the sun to the different organisms.
Attitude: Develop an awareness the importance of each components in the ecosystem

II. CONTENT/ TOPIC Energy Transfer in the Ecosystems

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

A. References: Science 7 Learner’s Material pages 124-129
B. Materials: Science 7 Learner’s Material and Visual Materials about the Energy Transfer in the
Ecosystems

C. PROCEDURE

A. Preparatory Activities:

1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of the attendance

B. ELICIT:

What was our topic last meeting?

What are the different relationships that exist between organisms in an ecosystem?
C. ENGAGE:

Post an illustration of an ecosystem to the class.

Let the students describe the illustration, then ask the following question:

1. What are the different types of plants that you can see in the illustration?
2. Where do you think the plants gets its energy?
3. What are the organisms that feed on plants in this illustration?
4. What are the different types of animals that you can see in the illustration?
5. What identify the organisms that feed on other organisms

Identify the organisms that are mentioned as producers, first order consumer, second order
consumer, and third order consumer.

D. EXPLORE:

Using the same illustration, call students volunteers to trace the flow of energy from the sun to the
different organisms.

Energy from the sun

E. EXPLAIN:

What can you observe in this series? How does energy flow from the sun to the different
organisms?

What does it tells us?

What do we call this series of energy flow?

F. ELABORATE

Food chain

- A sequence of energy transfer among organisms to obtain energy and nutrients.

- A series of eaten-eater relationship or a series of producer-and-consumer relationship
based on food
 A food chain starts with the energy source, the sun.
 The next link in the chain is the group of organisms that make their own food -
the photosynthetic organisms (producers)
 Next in the sequence are organisms the eat the producers; they are the first
order consumers
 The next link in the chain is the group of animals that eat the first order
consumer; they are the second order consumer. These organisms in turn, are
eaten by larger animals – the predators; they are also called third order
consumers.

G. Application
Do you think each component in the food chain are important? What do you think will
happen if one component disappears, let’s say for example the plants?
What do you think will happen to the other organisms?

H. EVALUATION:

A. Construct a food chain showing how energy flow from the sun to the different organisms.
List down the organisms found in your food chain. By putting a check mark (/), classify them
according to the following categories:

Organism Producer First-order Second-order Third-order

Consumer Consumer Consumer

I. .EXTEND:

A. List down 3 examples for each of the following:

1. Producers
2. 1st order consumer
3. 2nd order consumer
4. 3rd order consumer
5. Scavengers
6. Decomposers

B. Draw a food chain. Label the organisms as producers, 1st order consumer, 2nd order
consumer, 3rd order consumer and decomposer.
