A Detailed Lesson Plan

In Mathematics Grade 9
I. Objectives
At the end of the 30-minute lesson, the pupils are expected to:
a. Explain the concept and process of the quadratic equation factoring
b. Integrate the concept of quadratic equations to their.2 everyday life
c. Create a song that will summarize the concept of quadratic equation factoring and its
use in everyday life.

III. Learning Activities

Teacher’s Activities Pupil’s Activities

A. Preparation Activities

1. Routine
Children, good morning. Good morning, teacher.
We are your teachers for today
May you, *name of student*, lead the prayer? Angel of God, my guardian dear
To whom His love, commits me here
Ever this day, be at my side
To light and guard, to rule and guide
Thank you *name of student* Amen.

Everyone please rise up. Arrange your chairs in u-

shaped manner.
After that everyone go to the middle. Let’s do five
jumping jacks.

Okay, I think everyone is finally awake now. You may

now take your sits.
2. Recall

First let’s start answering the following:

1x1?
Yes *name of student*
1 Teacher
Very good, *name of student*

How about 2x2?

Okay I feel that *name of student* want to answer.
Right. 4 Teacher

Okay. Let’s make it bigger number okay?

Okay Teacher.

12x12?
Yes *name of student*
Very good. Teacher 144

Last, 19x19?
Yes, *name of student* 361 Teacher

Very good *name of student.*

3. Motivation

You are all very good. With that let’s play a game
Yehey!
There will be 9 pieces of paper that will be distributed
later. The papers are puzzle pieces that you need to
fix in order to reveal a concept. The activity will take
five minutes, the one who will finish it first will have
prize.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

Okay class now let’s try to answer this.

𝑥 2 = 16
Does anyone know the answer?
Hearing none. I guess you forgot or totally did not
encounter this one.

Extract the square roots of the following; If you

remember as it was discussed in the past lesson, a
quadratic equation will always have two solutions. In
this case, one of which is the positive square root
and the second is a negative square root.

For: 𝑥 2 = 16, we extract the root of both sides we get,

𝑥 = ±4

For: 𝑥 2 = 64, we extract the root of both sides we get,

𝑥 = ±8

For: 3𝑥 2 = 27, we divide both sides first by 3, giving a

result of 𝑥 2 = 9, then extract the root of both sides we
get, 𝑥 = ±3

For: 4𝑥 2 = 64, we divide both sides first by 4, giving a

result of 𝑥 2 = 16, then extract the root of both sides
we get, 𝑥 = ±4

Reminder students that if the power was raised to

the even number like 2, 4, 6 and so on, the answer
will have negative and positive sign. Why? Because
we know that when we multiply two numbers with
the same sign whether it is both positive and both
negative the answer is always positive.

Is there any question? Clarification?

None.
If none, I will be the one to ask questions. How do
you think you can apply this concept in your daily
life?

Okay *name of student* you are raising your hands.

Teacher I think when you are buying a

How so?
land.

Because the unit they are using is square

meters. So you can easily imagine if the
land is big enough or not.
Very good *name of student*. That was right. Land
seller is using square meters in their unit system.
Another?
Yes *name of student*
Teacher you can use it when you want to
Oh, what do you mean? make a movable puzzle.

The puzzle you can buy outside. You can

make it rather than buying it and it will be
easy for you to know how many cuts you
will do in the picture. Like if you want 3x3.
So you need 9 cuts.
Okay, I see your point now. That’s great. You can
save more money if you will be the one who will
create your toy. And it will be easy for you because
you use the quadratic equation factoring.
C. Concluding Activities

1. Generalization

Extract the roots of the following quadratic equation.

a. 𝑥2 = 9 a. ±3
b. 𝑥2 = 1 b. ±1
c. 𝑥 2 = 256 c. ±18
d. 2𝑥 2 = 242 d. ±11
e. 5𝑥 2 = 500 e. ±10

2. Application

Okay how we get that answers. Can anyone explain

it in front?

Yes *name of student* can you explain how we So first we raised both side by the power
come up 3 in letter a? of two and then we simplify it. And that
how we come up with positive and
negative three.

Very good *name of student*

So why it’s important that there should be positive Teacher because the power was raised
and negative side in this example quadratic to two and we know that like signs either
equation? positive or negative that is raised to even
number, the answer is always positive.
Yes *name of student*

Very good *name of student*

Okay how about the letter d? Can anyone explain Yes teacher, so first like you said earlier
how did you get positive and negative ten? we first divide both side by five. So 500
divide by 5 is 100 and 5𝑥 2 divide by 5 is 𝑥 2 .
Yes *name of student you are raising your hand After that we extract the square root of
both sides. Therefore x is equal to 10.

Almost. You just forgot something. Do you want to I think teacher I can answer it. I already
ask for help your classmate or you can answer it remember. The finally answer should be
alone? positive and negative ten.

That’s right.
Okay I think you got the lesson for today. Let’s have
5 items for our formative exam. Bring out ¼ sheet of
paper. And answer the following.

Quiz: Extract the root of the following quadratic

equation.

1. 𝑥 2 = 49
2. 𝑥 2 = 361
3. 𝑥 2 = 441
4. 5𝑥 2 = 125
5. 6𝑥 2 = 600

Answers:
1. 7
2. 19
3. 21
4. 5
5. 10

Okay now for the last activity. You need to group

yourselves into 5 group and after that you will
compose a song based on what you learned in the
lesson today.
