Guideline for Professional training and Thesis Synopsis submission

1. Final portfolio submissions for the professional training (15ARC 9.1) on 22nd NOV 2019
beforell:00 am.
2. Submission of internship Portfolio and documents should containjoining letter, monthly
feedback forms, completion certificate and drawings. All drawings should be compiled in A3
portfolio format; in case if you have AO/ Al/ A2 size sheets you can go for A3 file folding. And
only hard/soft bound portfolio will be accepted for submission.
3. On day of 22nd NOV 2019 (Friday) Afternoon section everyone have to be present for the thesis
introduction session.
4. On zs"
NOV 2019 (Friday) synopsis review each one of them comes with 2 different topics for the
review. At end of the day we will be finalizing the thesis project of everyone's.
5. On 4th DEC2019 (Wednesday) announcement of guides and Internal jury dates.

Note:
• For submission of synopsis refer synopsis format which attached below, your synopsis should
follows same parameters in same order which listed there.
• People who are not able to present on thesis introduction session (ie. 22nd NOV 2019) are directly
not eligible to take your Thesis in the batch of 2019-20.

SYNOPSIS FORMAT
1. Tentative topic/s:
[1. Rehabilitation housing mechanisms - Role of Vernacular Architecture
2. Tourism complex, Hampi, Karnataka
3. Contextualizing an Adaptive reuse: The case of Mahboob Mansion, Malakpet, and Hyderabad. etc.]

2. Broad typology of Thesis


[Students should outline the nature and typology of the proposed Architectural Thesis, like Study-based,
Design based or Study and Design-based; and also mention the theme base like Heritage and
Conservation, Energy efficiency and sustainability, Spatial politics and manifestation etc.]

3. Philosophy of design and Theoretical background


[This should reflect the purpose and function of the studylDesign you have taken up. What is its relevance
in the current context and how it will contribute to the realm of architecturelUrban design or to the users
i.e, the public realm. Also mention the related theories you will be exploring during the course of
study/Design

4. Aim
[Students should briefly mention the aim of the chosen Thesis topic, based on the expected outcome.
For instance, if the chosen topic is Topic no. 2 given above, then the aim may be, "To complement the
tourist facility of Hampi town by analyzing the need as well as demand for such a facility amidst the
existing heritage structures and propose a suitable design for proposed Tourist Complex".

If the chosen topic is Topic no. 3 given above, then the aim may be, "To study the concept of Adaptive
reuse, shared Heritage and its changing notions in a cosmopolitan city and to contextualize the design
proposal for the selected case."]

5. Justification of the Topic


[Students should present a background of the premise of chosen thesis topic so as to establish the context
and thereby justify the selection of the Thesis topic, also mentioning if it is a hypothetical or live project
and need for such proposed project.]

6. Objectives
[Students should enlist a set of objectives, which shall help in formulating Scope and Limitations of the
proposed study and to explore relavent theories related to spatial organization, building science and other
social theories]

7. Scope of Work and Limitations


[Students should clearly outline the Scope of Work as well as limitations in order to define the depth of
study as well as desired outcome and to enable evaluation of students' accordingly.]

8. Methodology
[Students should define their Research and Design Methodology, evolve and present the key milestones
or stages of study chronologically, in order to relate the progress of study as well as to clarify the
appropriateness to the evaluator at every stage of the Thesis.]

9. Proposed Site and Justification of Site selection


[Students should present details of the proposed Site. Students should only choose a site which physically
exists so as to enable evaluation of the context.]
10. Case Studies
[Students should enlist the proposed Case Studies by clearly substantiating the appropriateness of the
choice.]

11. Conclusion
[Students should summarise the overall content of the Synopsis and conclude herein]

Note: The specific design requirements can be finalized during the second stage, ie. Along with the
literature review and pilot case studies.
